Probably the next best high school tournament (after Walsh Ironman) in the region this weekend is King of the Mountain in beautiful Mill Hall, PA at Central Mountain HS.

Some top teams entered:
AAA #1 Bethlehem Catholic
AAA #2 Boyertown
AAA #4 Mifflin County
AAA #5 Greater Latrobe
AAA #6 Exeter Township
AA #12 Wyalusing
AAA #13 Jersey Shore
AA #13 Boiling Springs

...and some top individuals:
Luke Karam
Sammy Sasso
Seth Janney
Zack Trampe
Jordan Wood
Hayden Hidlay

Tournament starts tomorrow (Friday) at 2pm

Seth Janney is enrolled at Malvern Prep this year. He is wrestling at the IM.

Was at KOM this weekend - great tournament as always. As always it's hard to follow a lot of early tournament action as you are watching your team, but was able to see some great stuff from quarterfinals on. Some of the good stuff:

Gould pressed Sasso in the quarters taking him to OT. Later took down Riley Palmer in consi semis with a late TD. Kid is a very quality wrestler that often gets overlooked because he's had some injuries in his career. Bucknell getting a good one. 138 was a great bracket with probably 6 or 7 probable state placers in it. Also at 138, Pletcher looks very big and I was told that 138 may be in the cards all season. Sasso probably heading to 132. Be interesting to see what Coy does - wrestled 145 here.

Couple of younger brother freshman at 113 in Myers and Coy. Saw the Myers-Tyson Klump semi which was very entertaining and might have been reversed if not for a late 4 point move in the first by Klump. Myers very, very slick on his feet and can ride. Coy also very impressive and took Myers down in the 3rd place match in OT. Turned a really nice Myers shot into a TD, knows how to win like his brother.

Jakob Campbell at 113 also with a great tournament, nice semi vs. Barzona and great final vs. Klump. Slapped a cradle on Klump a couple seconds into the 3rd, when up 3-0 and had him there most of the 3rd. Klump didn't look any bigger than last year and I was told he wasn't and will be heading back down again which makes sense.

Hidlay is a monster although his bracket wasn't up to par with some of the others. Agreed with the choice of Pletcher as OW.

Little Hidlay also with a nice tournament and works off that underhook just like his brother. Is going to be very good and is a large kid at 160.

Woodley with a great run, but him being unseeded was really questionable. I know he doesn't have all the credentials, but it's not really that hard to pay attention to offseason, early season and past year results. Same thing with Landefeld, but it was fairly routine to predict that he would be in the finals if he was healthy as a 10 seed after seeing the bracket. Peirson unseeded at 106? The kid is ranked #6 in state for a reason. Not a big fan of some of their seeding thought processes up there sometimes - yeah, I know people say at the end of the day, the 1st and 2nd (or 3rd best) kids end up in the finals, but when you really blow a seeding, it shows up in the consys, where deserving kids get left off the stand. Minor rant, but I'm a seeding guy.

The good guys, lol, CR South, with another fine performance finishing 4th at KOM, following a strong 2nd at CV Kickoff. We've got a nice squad and some of our "questions" are wrestling pretty good which bodes well for the dual season. Nazareth was also impressive and had a really good tournament. Boyertown as expected, as they are battling for the 2nd best team in the state with Belle Vernon.

Awesome writeup Dice. Thank you

It's a tournament with great competition. Annually it is one of the more poorly run "big" tournaments around. Often get started late and have to wrestle very late in the evening on Friday while rarely keeping anything close to schedule. Some egos get in the way up there with seeding and tournament management. Some good teams won't go back because of these things. But crazy good competition.

Its amazing how many tournaments are run like this that are not of this size. Always have said this hurts the sport, especially at the young ages.

You should have done a roll call for KOM. We were both in the gym and didn't know it.
