This archaic stadium which was built in 7-months in 1929, should be forced to remove first five rows because there is not sufficient space for away team player safety. Iowa fans: pinch-touch, yell -swear, and throw things at the opposing players bench area - all game long. Their fan's are way too close and the Big Ten should not allow them to seat fan's in the first five rows for this reason. I've heard our player's comments over the years about this and Iowa is very "low class" for allowing this tradition to continue. We probably can't expect more from a school that feels they need to paint the opposing teams locker room (pink) in order to gain an advantage. Speed kills and Iowa will be slow Saturday for the Lions 4th straight victory in Kinnick!

When I read the thread title I thought it was referring to the over abundance of pellets that mysteriously end up on the field for games they play against more athletic teams.

i agree it is pretty bad with no room. Care less about the heckling and more about the fact that there is just not enough room for everybody to stand comfortably and it is an advantage for Iowa. So agree, they should have to take out a few rows and move the wall back to provide more space.

Its possible, but my guess is that the majority of the folks complaining about this type of stuff.....1. have never been to Kinnick.....2. Have never actually met an actual Iowa fan.........but still have very strong opinions about both based on message board non sense..
I don’t know about meeting Iowa fans, but you don’t have to go to Kinnick to see how close the fans are to the visiting team. It’s not safe, that’s what they’re saying.

OK, this is rude, the stadium was renovated a couple years ago and is a fantastic venue if you are not a jerk. Great place to watch a game and generally opposing fans enjoy their trip to IC as far as how they're treated and the town itself. I am sure you also feel since Iowa is 'low class' waving and honoring kids with cancer across the street is just reprehensible. After all, Iowa is low class. I love the tight sidelines but you are correct there is a big advantage. Back when Kyle Orton was playing for Purdue, he went to the same HS as my buddy and we sat in 3rd row behind Purdue's bench. Kyle was getting the best of us early so my buddy announced the name of a girl who made an allegation against him and her name was chanted loud by the section. Kyle heard it, looked at the section like a deer in headlights, and was trash to the point of being benched late. There are some things about the atmosphere that makes Iowa different than many BIG stadiums.

What kind of allegation? Was it proven? Or did you just chant the girl's name to honor her courage in making an allegation? I'm sure she appreciated her name being chanted in a stadium full of people. Sounds hilarious. Good on ya!!!

What a stupid story.

You had me right up until the point where you talked about how cool it was to use alleged sexual assault stories to your advantage

I've read that some teams will hang tarp/ curtains over the walls when they play there.

Yes, it was a stupid story. I was actually illustrating that you are correct the sidelines are too close. You're not able to comprehend though. The sidelines won't be the reason we beat you tomorrow.
Pretty sure you misunderstood lionville's post. Best of luck to Iowa tonight.

Good Grief. I thought PSU fans might be above complaining about this type of thing …
We don't need pink locker rooms to gain an advantage because we can beat slow Iowa with speed not pink walls. We would never build a stadium and not calculate the proper amount of field floorspace needed to host a football game. You've had since 1929 to fix the problem. Budgets are not big in Iowa. Enjoy the game.

So the fans either A) used a sexual assault of a girl as a foil to rattle a guy over a football game or B) falsely accused an innocent person of sexual assault in order to win a football game? Was the point of your story to solidify how low-class your fans really are?

Doesn't mean it's never happened, but I can't recall a player ever being injured running out of bounds at Kinnick.

Like with every other stadium, players generally run into other players, coaches, trainers, etc ...

Minnesota and Tanner Morgan come to town later in the season. Is the plan in Kinnick to wave to the kids followed by chants of "brain cancer" to Tanner Morgan?

What a depraved, sad story. But, not unexpected from a fan base who thinks sexual assault against minors is funny.

you know Iowa has really gotten a lot of mileage out of the waving to the kids thing

I mean, its nice and all but jeez you're not actually doing something that takes effort, you're turning and waving, and it isn't some time honored tradition, its been happening for like three years, you can't just claim something like that is a tradition, it doesn't work that way

Another example of the Iowa fandom and lack of awareness. This is a good example of what I have spoken about earlier this week. They don’t realize when they are being assholes, unlike a guy from Philly or Jersey.

Kinda reminds me of what opposing basketball teams had to put up with at Rec Hall.……or the Hickory Huskers in the band boxes they played in Hoosiers.

Iowa modified their sidelines a couple years ago to meet minimum space standards for the team area. OP is just setting up excuses.
How can I be setting excuses? The comment has to do with your stadium design and we've won the last (3) at Iowa, regardless. It's your POS stadium and the pathetic part is that you modified it and it still lack enough field space. The stadium needs bulldozed to do things properly. Most stadiums built in the 1920's need or have been bulldozed and Kinnick is no exception. Enjoy!

If you want to do more than pat yourself on the back for waving at children, then try raising (157 million) dollars for children's cancer like the Penn State students have done since 1977. Actions speak louder than words!

Holy crap.

The great, grand old stadiums of the league were built in the '20s. Ohio State's Horseshoe (opened 10-7-22). Michigan Stadium (10-1-27).

At least six others of the original 10 built in the '20s.

I believe even Beaver Stadium's footprint or lower bowl was opened in 1909 or something. Sorry, you're way off base on age being a knock against a stadium. Many, mindful of those who played before, find it plus.

Did you pull something patting yourself on the back? Iowa’s has only been around for 27 years but $31m isn’t terrible. https://dancemarathon.uiowa.edu/about/#:~:text=Over our 27 year history, kids and families we support!

Here’s to a great game!

Thoroughly enjoying Kinnick today. One the best stadiums in the history of College football.

Tell that to the kids and their parents. Better yet, come and participate.

Looked like a dump on TV. But whatever floats your boat.
Have you ever been there or just judged it from your living room? FWIW Beaver stadium is one of my favorite vistor stadiums I've been to even though I got screamed at from frat boys most of the game. Madison is great experience aswell.

Avoid Rutgers(fans are brutal)/Maryland/ and NW(felt like a HS stadium)
