There is a lot of noise about Arizona Cardinals taking Murray #1 overall, look at this report on Murray from the combine:

They could trade down several spots, and I bet Murray would still be there.

What has created so much buzz around Murray, and why lately? He didn't do anything at the Combine. All through the season we saw many players being talked about as early round 1, and Murray was hardly known. Why so much interest now?

I can’t answer that question. I did watch s lot of the combine, there were lots of D guys who look like a #1. Pick a position on D front 7 you can find one. The DT from Alabama ( Harrison?) looked awesome to me

It was assumed he’d never play a down in the NFL and take the baseball path.

That could be because he's a better baseball player than NFL style quarterback.
isnt there something about the baseball bonus he received, and wouldnt he have to pay that back if he played football? wouldnt he owe about $4 mil back to baseball if he goes the football route?

Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley believes NFL Network commentator Charley Casserly is peddling bad information about quarterback Kyler Murray.

Although Casserly described Murray’s interviews with NFL teams at the Scouting Combine as disastrous, Riley said he has personally spoken to most of the teams that talked to Murray and doesn’t believe Casserly’s claims are true.

“I’ve personally spoken with the majority of teams that he met with [at the Combine} and everyone was glowing about their conversations with Kyler,” Riley told Dan Patrick. “Basically the complete opposite of what Charley said.”

Riley also said Casserly is incorrect in saying Murray is not a good leader.

“Kyler was a tremendous leader for us,” Riley said. “All he cares about is winning. I think our team took on his personality.”

Riley may have his own motives to talk up Murray — he would like to be known as the coach who developed a baseball prospect into the first overall pick in the NFL draft — but he is also in a better position than anyone else to assess what kind of player Murray is. And Riley has nothing but glowing things to say about his quarterback.

IMO I dont think teams would lie to Casserly, or at least he would sniff out the BS. OTOH why would teams be upfront to Lincoln Riley? The have no upside in telling him what really happened. Lincoln has a conflict here, Casserly doesnt

This guy shorter than Trace and was one of the Knocks in him. Looks like another RGIII but I thought Mayfield would be a bust so what do I know.

Murray only received $1.5mm in cash, with a little less than $3.2mm due him in March. If he signs a football contract, he has to return about $1.3mm to the As. He'll have no problem if he's picked anywhere in the first round of the NFL draft.

if its due in March, he will not have signed a football contract by then (unless of course Arizona says he's out pick, and therefore signs him). so is he going to tell the A's, dont give me the money ($3.2 mil) and pay the rest back? Just wondering the logistics of all of this. tia

Don't know the contract specifics, but it sounds logical if he's already been paid the money.

It's up to the As. I don't see them paying him the $3.2mm. As for the money that Murray has to pay back to the As, I'm sure his agent (who also happens to be Johnny Football's) could arrange a loan.

Doesn’t everyone wish they had these thorny fiscal problems. Somebody gave me 11/2 million and wants give me another 3 to 4 million. Somebody else will probably give me 10 million or more to do something different. What’s a guy to do!!!!

it was reported he would owe the part of the $4M he already took (i think $1.8M) back to baseball team. He will also have paid tax on the $1.8M, but the US IRS probably will not allow that to credit back. hope he has good tax advice on this.

Casserly also said Arizona was shopping Josh Rosen. Why would they be shopping Rosen if Casserly's info is true. One of Casserly's 2 reports are full of sh*t. Also remember this is the same genius that drafted QB Heath Shuler 3rd in 1994 and QB David Carr #1 in 2002..
