Larry Bird highlight video....he was pretty good

It looks like at the end of the video, at the retirement ceremony in Boston Garden, he has handed a baby. Presumably this was his son or daughter. I wonder if they played much basketball and if they inherited any of Larry Bird's ability, drive, and competitiveness?

The NBA was at its very best when Bird vs Magic was going on. I loved it...the rivalry. I was always a Magic fan so I hated Larry Bird when he was playing but if I am building a team of the top 5 ever...he would have to be on that team. I grew to respect Larry and love him. What a competitor....and I love the way Magic and Bird respected each other. Larry was an amazing player.....never will be another like him.

That was a special time. I lived in suburban L.A. at the time and was a big Lakers fan. Like you, I didn't like Bird, but I had to respect him. He was an incredible talent.

Bird and Magic were competitors who of course developed their rivalry in college. Important for me is that they respected one another. That made the game more appealing for me.

Sixers - Celtics - Lakers; the hey day of the NBA. Will never forget those Sixer - Celtic playoffs series in the early 80's. Larry Bird will never be remembered for it but he was a great defensive player as well.

So true....those were such fun times. I miss it a lot. I just don't get into NBA anymore. Does not have the appeal anymore to me.

The NBA was so awesome back in those days. The Lakers-Celts rivalry was amongst the best in all of sports. The Lakers had a real advantage because the Eastern team was usually beat to hell by the time they won the division. As great as the Lakers were (probably more talented than Celts to a man), I wonder if they could have withstood the Eastern conference beating the Celts went through just to make the championship.

Even though I've seen this before, thanks for posting this extremely inspirational collage of Bird's highlights.

An underrappreciated aspect of Bird's game was his desire. Everyone knows he could shoot and pass (with eyes in the back of his head, included), but he would regularly dive on the floor for a loose ball. He was graceful and physical. A rare combination. He was the ultimate competitor.

Went by Bird's house in French Lick a few times. Very unpretentious. If it were not for the basketball court in the yard, it was just an everyday house on a nice piece of property. There was a F-150 pickup parked in the driveway. That was Larry Bird!

That is awesome. I love when rich people obviously don't forget their humble roots. Thanks for sharing.
