- I was able to speak with some contacts this morning about the players transferring out, specifically in relation to Lamont Wade. I focused on Wade because I was told that he's still undecided when it comes to leaving. For the most part, it sounds like all the other players are set on leaving. There may be one, maybe two that stick around, but the majority of the players in the transfer portal are leaving.
But out of those players, Wade is the closest to 50/50. From what I gathered, I still think the odds are better than he leaves than stays, but he's the most open to staying. A lot of this will just depend on which schools come calling and how he fits into their plans. I tried to get a feel for which schools reached out, but all I was told is that more than a dozen coaches have reached out. I wasn't told which schools specifically.
I was told that Franklin has reached out to Wade to talk. I get the impression that he'll be meeting with Franklin before the end of the week, but I don't believe anything is set at this time.
As for why he's considering this transfer, like so many others in the portal, I got the impression that Wade is mainly just searching for more playing time. At the very least, I think that's one of the reasons why. At the same time, I wasn't able to speak with anyone close to Wade or his family, so I'm hesitant to say for sure why this has come about.
Looking at snap counts, Wade totaled slightly more than 200 snaps on defense as a freshman. He totaled 128 this past year. He had 354 snaps total this year, so almost two-thirds of his snaps were on special teams.
I'll do my best to monitor all of this moving forward. There's not much of a timeline here for a decision. It could drag into February, but it could also be finalized in the next week or two. Once I get a better feel for which other schools are reaching out and who he's serious about, I think that'll help us determine the timeline for this decision.
