A lot of my lawn has a southern aspect and the ants crave nesting there. At least every other day, I hunt their hills and spray them with a walmart gallon spray jug. Would spreading a granular product work as good or better? Thank you!

I would also be interested in any ant control tips shared as I’ve been battling them for the last month. Thought I had a ninja mouse in the garage b/c bait kept disappearing, turns out it was ants eating the peanut butter before the mice had a chance to get to it. I’ve done liquid traps that supposedly kill the colony, granular poison around the house, kill on contact spray and other outdoor traps as well. I can say that I witnessed ants crawling over the granular stuff with no hesitation just days after putting it down.

Those bastards!

Down here in eastern NC I’ve dealt with fire ants for pretty much every year I’ve owned my house (10 years). First 4-5 years I’d chase them around the yard all summer trying different things. Then I found a product made by ferti-lome called “come and get it”

https://www.fertilome.com/product/come-and-get-it-fire-ant-killer-1-lb

The stuff plain works 100% of the time. I only have to treat 2-3 pop up mounds throughout the 6-8 month southern summer. 1 MAYBE 2 treatments and they’re gone. Swear by this stuff. Don’t know what kind of ants you have but it smokes fire ants. Just follow the directions (sprinkle it on and around the mound early in the morning or late in the evening around their feeding time) and they’re gone in 36-48 hours.

Used to fight that issue with them ignoring it till I started putting it down early in the morning or late in the evening when they feed. Seems to be the best time to lay it out.

I have had good luck with a granular product that has Diazanon (sp?). Apparently the ants take the crystals back to the nest and it wipes out the entire colony. But I also stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Good luck!

Have had great success with Seven (Ortho) Dust in a tube you sprinkle to apply. Put a barrier of it around the foundation of our house 3 times per year and no ants. It's inexpensive too.

Simple, anteater!

Terro is more for indoors but it works so well I am trying it outdoors. Only leave out for a week I am told.

+1. this works great for a lot of pests, slugs, cabbage moths...

It works with yellow jackets, wasps and hornets as well. Had a major issue last summer with yellow jackets up under the siding on my deck. Sprayed for a week and nothing. Someone here recommended Diatomaceous Earth and they were gone in 24 hours.

Here in TX I use Advion fire ant bait. I found reviews and info on it on www.doyourownpestcontrol.com and https://fireant.tamu.edu/. It's expensive, but it works and works quickly. It can be used across the whole lawn or for mound treatment. I did mound treatment and noticed that mound activity would stop in a few days. I had another mound pop up shortly after, then I'd treat that one. I did that 3-4 times and then boom, no more mounds. I don't know how effective it is for other types of ants but it might be worth looking into.

Do any of you know a good way to get rid of anteaters? I brought them in to get rid of ants and they did a pretty good job but now I just have too many of them hanging around my yard. Does anyone have a good recipe for anteater?

Grizzly bear....

Fire ant talk reminds me of being on the bottom of a pile at football practice in Texas in August, and suddenly realizing you landed in a fire ant mound and can’t move until the pile gets up. Not pleasant.
