Anyone ever been there? Played the course? I am staying there next weekend for the U.S. Open. Playing the course on Friday. Going to the Open on Saturday. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts/comments about the resort/course.

I don't know anything about the golf course, my question is, how do you say Lenape?

I thought it was pronounced Len-a-pee ( I thought there was a HS in NJ with that name back in the day.
I watched a TV series that said, La-nape

so which is it, or both?

I have no clue how to pronounce it. But I have been pronouncing it La-nape. We picked it because it was relatively close to Oakmont and we could play golf and stay there.

From a person who attended Lenape Junior High School....

The Lenape (/ləˈnɑːpi/)
Lenni-Lenape (or Lenni-Lenapi) comes from their autonym, Lenni, which may mean "genuine, pure, real, original," andLenape, meaning "Indian" or "man".[9] (cf. Anishinaabe.) Alternately, lënu may be translated as "man."[10]

The Lenape, when first encountered by whites, were a loose association of related peoples who spoke similar languages and shared familial bonds in an area known as Lenapehoking,[1] the Lenape traditional territory, which spanned what is now eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, southern New York, and eastern Delaware.

Most Lenape were pushed out of their Delaware homeland during the 18th century by expanding European colonies, exacerbated by losses from intertribal conflicts.[8] Lenape communities were weakened by newly introduced diseases, mainly smallpox, and violent conflict with Europeans.Iroquois people occasionally fought the Lenape. Surviving Lenape moved west into the upper Ohio River basin. The American Revolutionary Warand United States' independence pushed them further west. In the 1860s, the United States government sent most Lenape remaining in the eastern United States to the Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma and surrounding territory) under the Indian removal policy. In the 21st century, most Lenape now reside in the US state of Oklahoma, with some communities living also in Wisconsin, Ontario (Canada) and in their traditional homelands.

Traditional Lenape lands, the Lenapehoking, encompassed the Delaware Valley of eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey from the Lehigh River south into eastern Delaware and the Delaware Bay, western Long Island, New York Bay, and the Lower Hudson Valley in New York. The Lenape lived in numerous small towns along the rivers and streams that fed the waterways.

played it many years ago but they put $ into facilities and the course since then. Been buy it on some business travels. Near Ford City and Kittanning.

Indeed it is Len-a-pee. Named for a tribe of the same name. Hit'm straight and enjoy the Open.

I played it after the renovations (went from 9 to 18 holes) and they added a nice club house. But this was years ago. Hilly course that probably rates two stars out of five. Funky par 3 (around hole number 3 or 4) that has a ball flight path interrupted by high tension wires. Better options in area include Riverforest near Freeport, Birdsfoot south of Kittanning on Route 28, and Buffalo Valley near Freeport a few miles off of Route 28. It has been years since I have played any of these courses so you will want to get some other feedback.

I have played it a few times and do not think much of it. I agree that a better alternative is Birdsfoot.

definitely second the Birdsfoot recommendation. that is a fantastic course.

not sure how far you are willing to drive or spend, but I would recommend Stonewall in Ellwood City.

Have played Birdsfoot many times. It's about the best public course up rt 28. Get on their web site and register and you may get a better deal for a tee time.

A backup if Birdsfoot is booked is Pheasant Ridge, up route 8. Pittsburgh National is also up near there but was not as nice the last time I was there compared to a few years back.

I also would recommend Old Stonewall if you are looking for something more up scale, but pricier..... Front 9 is rolling, with some water. Back 9 goes up in the hills/mountains with I believe 2 sweet back to back par 3's.

Has anyone ever played Totteridge golf course? I am planning on playing there one day and it looks nice. It's a links course which will be a nice change of pace.
