Levi Haines- Franklin & Marshall Open

I think his top game was most impressive. Most 6th year seniors are pretty good at getting out of bottom. I also liked that it wasn’t just a ride but he was looking for positions that he could turn into points. Kept going bar and wrist and rode legs well. Bodes well for him to become a real hammer on top where he can wrack up some pins and near fall points
Also that he got out from bottom in 7 sec.

Steen Mat 3 - J Allen from Navy

Lots of ties, not much action.

Feeling each other out. Snaps starting.

No scoring in period 1.

Period 2

Gary escaped

1-0

End 2 - gary took a weak shot. Not much else happened outside of the escape

Gary losing 2-3

Steen would’ve been fine there had he just trusted his basic defense and whizzered down hard. Didn’t need to roll.

Even with the L, Gary is looking WAY WAY better today than he did at Clarion where he was getting absolutely worked by kids his age. Like I said on the Clarion thread, I wondered if something was wrong with him that day. Gary isn't one to get horsed around by anyone.

Now he's hanging with NQ from last year, which is about what most expected.

For sure, not saying the opponent was a world beater, it was the process and types of things he was able to do against an older, experienced opponent. Never threatened defensively, easily off bottom, broke down and rode more than a minute when starting on top, won the hand fight, finished shots where he wasn't in perfect position.
Anything else? :)

I hope he doesn’t continue to grow because he fits so perfectly at 157. I know we all want Shapiro but Levi at 157 sets up the lineup pretty perfectly

Bokina wrestled the Cornell starter close (2-3 point match) at an open earlier this year. Thats a impressive win for a HS senior.

If Facundo, Star and Brooks all move up which I think is a good possibility, Levi at 165 would be perfect. I’ve said it before though, I’m horrible at trying to guess our roster.

I like that especially if we land Shapiro. Means Beard doesn’t have a spot unfortunately though. If we land Mullen as well the backend is insanely good. Obviously a ton of what-ifs and speculation but think about 157-Shapiro 165-Levi 174-Facundo 184-Cstar 197-AB Hvy-Mullen So good it’s almost silly
Edit because I forgot Barr as well. So many options and all of them good

We might be able to manage with greyshirts and olympic redshirts but if we land Shapiro, someone very good likely won't get 4 NCAA tournaments.

Barr is just a junior, so there’s a very good chance Brooks at least is out of the lineup by his rsFR season. And if he gray shirts then it opens up a lot. Just based on gut, I don’t think Brooks takes the extra year.

Steen loses to Ungar again, 7-2.

Steen handled by Ungar 7-2, got ridden out in the 3rd and got dinged 2x for bottom stalling in the process.

The kid Levi beat in his first match beat Derek Fields in wrestle backs. Fields is a super tough freshman who was a big recruit for NC State. His wins keep getting more impressive
