Lions just don't have the resources the Nuts have

Don't really know anyone that thinks Joe was some kind of God. I just agree he was completely thrown under the bus by the board of trustees and the media.
Well he believed in doing things “the right way”. Old fashioned sure but fits with PA culture. He also provided stability over a long time and accepted a compensation that was below par because he was not materialistic. His only vise was a glass of whiskey and he lived in a modest home.

Most are Joe supporters. I think the university wants their money.
Nah ... let them go. We're never going to appease the cult members ... we'll figure out how to generate revenue streams. Time to move on. We need to do what's best for Penn State University, going forward ... not spin our wheels attempting to appease folks who are stuck in time and won't be appeased, regardless.

It shouldn’t completely tarnish his legacy, but he screwed up. In his own words, he should’ve done more. Time to move forward. In no way would I as a proud alum support the university honoring Joe. It would damage our reputation beyond what has already occurred.

Good points. I suppose you are under about 45 years old and don't understand or appreciate the allegiance that us older folks have to Joe Paterno. The Penn State big wigs threw Joe under the bus so that they could virtue signal to the rest of the country. Older PSU football fans will never get over that fact. We will never contribute money to the university because of the way Joe was treated. We will never get over it unless steps are taken to fix it. I suggest that the older folks who are still pissed about how Joe was treated are in the best financial position to contribute to the NIL fund. We aren't going to contribute until the insult and humiliation of Paterno is fixed.
Not a dime since NOV 2011.....13 years and counting. Sending money to an organization that is unwilling to defend itself is a waste of money. PSU holds all the cards to change that.

Sounds like you think of him as some kind of God.

Here's how rational folks (generally) think about PSU and JoePa ... "great guy, great leader ... built the program up ... stayed too long ... likely got mistreated in the whole Sandusky scandal. That sucks. It's stupid they took the statue down. I'll still fondly remember what he did for the university. OK, what can we do for PSU going forward?"

We're not stuck at "Joe Paterno's legacy must be avenged! We will not go on until we get our statue, our stadium renamed and apologies from all involved while they're being drawn and quartered! Do not say anything non-positive about JoePa! He was everything! Success with Honor! I will not pay a dime to support the university until JoePa's reputation is wiped clean ... I will hate and boycott every media source, every person and company that said anything critical of him! JoePa first and forever!!!!"

That statement is completely misinterpreted. Let's not religigate all that again. So the media would just trash the university again which would be unwarranted again.

Have to repeat myself. Don't know anyone that thinks he is a God.

If you truly understood Joe, you would know that he would not want to be honored at this point. Why the F would you do so likely against what he would have wanted and damage the reputation of the university in the process? It makes no effing sense.

Then you haven't been paying any attention to this board, or any other PSU football boards. Usually cult members don't comprehend they're in a cult until they've gotten out of it and can see clearly.

Okay, but since 2022, PSU lost 2 games to Michigan, which lost a total of 1 game combined in 2022 and 2023 and won a NC, 3 games to OSU, which made the playoffs in 2022 and only lost one regular season game in 2023, and a bowl game against a top 10 Ole Miss team when one third or more of the starters either opted out or played sparingly.

That's certainly true -- the games we've lost were to elite teams.

But we have a 13-game regular season losing streak against top-10 teams. Most of those top-10 teams were elite OSU or Michigan teams, granted. But that stat also shows that aside from Ohio State and Michigan, we don't really play many top-tier teams.

Since 2017, the only non-OSU/Michigan top-10 team we played in the regular season was Iowa in 2021.

In that same time period, OSU played Oklahoma, Oregon (twice), Notre Dame (twice), etc.

The big frustration with me is that our 11-2 seasons are fools gold. We lose the only games that matter and beat a pretty underwhelming slate of teams. Our 11-2 and Ohio State's 11-2 aren't really comparable. Which is why I go back to that original statistic about us losing a similar amount of games and suggesting that the statistic is meaningless.

This is yet another season with only a few (honestly -- only 1) big games. No Oregon. No Indiana. Nobody in the non-conference. So it's a bit hard to truly gauge where we are as a program when we get so few chances to play good teams.

You good friends with him? Guess you're the only one that knows.

Guess I'm in the cult. Penn State alumni and fan.

When Joe found out about Jerry he did send a memo to the administration. Administration did nothing. Joe took the fall for it. Perhaps he should have canned Jerry immedietly or tell the AD or Prez to can Jerry. So Joe should have canned Jerry &/or the AD should have canned Jerry ASAP. The AD should be held just as accountable as Joe for not immedietly acting upon Joe's memo. Perhaps there was more to this than I realize.

Sorry if I'm reading this wrong--Jerry wasn't on the staff then so it wasn't about firing him. Joe did everything legally that he needed to do--the question will always be "could he have done more" and most times, regardless of who is involved, the answer is yes. I think everyone has been held accountable to some degree. The issue is some people blame Joe for too much. Some refuse to acknowledge there's always more someone can do--especially with his power.

But--the point is--refusing to donate to Penn State or Penn State football simply isn't what Joe would have wanted.

I care much more about PSU than any particular coach. Even the great ones.

That's the point ... let's move on. Nothing to be gained by spinning our wheels in misery. And withholding aid for the future because of perceived slights of worshipped figures in the past.

PSU is not behind many, maybe OSU, Oregon, and a few of the SEC schools. But, with PSU’s large, engaged and relatively well off alumni base, we could be second to none.

I think people just don’t want to give Franklin more money to piss it away.

Get your point, don't disagree for the most part, but... that ship has sailed.
