Lock Haven

Scott Moore continues to work wonders at Lock Haven. Lock Haven qualified six wrestlers and finished 18th with 29 points at the NCAA tournament, just behind their 16th/35 point performance in 2018. Just like in 2018, two wrestlers finished on the podium. It was the first time that the Bald Eagles had back to back multiple AAs since 1996/1997. Lock Haven compiled a 10-3 dual meet record with their losses coming against Virginia, Oklahoma and Cornell. Their biggest victory came against Arizona State. Lock Haven finished 6th at the Southern Scuffle and 2nd at the Black Knight Invite <note: LHU’s website claims they finished 1st but Army edged them out>. The Bald Eagles filled the vacuum left by Edinboro’s collapse as the preeminent EWL power winning the EWL championships for the 2nd year in a row.

Along with the rest of the former EWL teams, Lock Haven is moving this season to a now crowded Mid-American Conference which will have 15 teams. As usual, Lock Haven’s early season schedule is filled with tournaments and we’ll see them again at the Southern Scuffle. The dual schedule doesn’t look that difficult with Cornell being the only top echelon team on it. Lock Haven returns one AA and three other qualifiers while losing 3rd place finisher Chance Marsteller and three-time qualifier Thomas Haines. It would be surprising (to me at least) if Lock Haven is able to finish close to their performance last season. Moore needs to hit the recruiting trail hard as this team has five senior starters.

Luke Werner (Jr) <Liberty, PA>

Werner finished with a 31-11 record but it wasn’t enough to qualify for the NCAA tournament. A very close loss to Willy Girard (Bloomsburg) in the EWL Championships kept him from getting an automatic qualification. He was 1-7 against NCAA qualifiers, the win coming against eventual 26 seed Alonzo Allen (UTC) at the Scuffle. <Bonus: 45.2%, RPI: .575>

133
DJ Fehlman (Sr) <Warren, PA>

Fehlman finished with a 36-8 record. He dropped back down from 141 to 133 midseason to take over the starting spot from Dalton Rohrbaugh. With winning the EWL championship, Fehlman qualified for the NCAAs for the second time. He went 2-2 from the 24 seed which included an upset of #9 seed Chaz Tucker (Cornell) in the 2nd round. <Bonus: 34.1%, RPI: (.629)>

141
Kyle Shoop (Sr) <Boiling Springs, PA>

Shoop finished with a 35-8 record, won the EWL championship and qualified for the NCAA tournament for the 3rd time. He was this year’s surprise AA for Lock Haven finishing 7th from the 13 seed. Along the way he upset #4 seed Josh Alber (UNI) in the 2nd round. <Bonus: 55.8%, RPI: .664>

149
Brock Port (So) <Bellefonte, PA>

Port stepped in to replace outgoing senior Ronnie Perry who finished 2nd to Zain last year. Port went 20-13 and placed 3rd at the EWL Championships (1 allocation). He didn’t have any wins against NCAA qualifiers. <Bonus: 27.3%, RPI: .521>

157
Alex Klucker (Sr) <East Pennsboro, PA>

Klucker, sporting one of the best last names in NCAA wrestling, went 21-11 on the season and qualified for the NCAA tournament for a second time after winning the EWL championship. He went 0-2 from the 32 seed. <Bonus: 46.9%, RPI: .560>

165
Caleb Clymer (Fr) <Northwestern Leigh, PA>

Caleb Clymer had a good redshirt season going 13-5 with his biggest win coming against NCAA qualifier Colston DiBlasi (GMU).

Last season, Chance Marsteller went 28-3 and finished his collegiate career on a high note becoming a two-time AA. After getting pinned by Evan Wick in the quarterfinals, Chance marched through the wrestlebacks, defeating #9 Demetrius Romero, #1 Alex Marinelli and #3 Josh Shields before avenging his loss against #4 Wick to capture 3rd place.

174
Jared Siegrist (Sr) <Manheim Central, PA>

Siegrist went 26-13 on the season and didn’t qualify for the NCAA tournament. He went 0-8 against qualifiers and placed 3rd at the EWL Championships (1 allocation).

184
Corey Hazel (Sr) <Penns Valley, PA>

Hazel went 17-5 overall and won the EWL championship, qualifying for NCAAs a second time. He went 2-2 from the 16 seed after running into Myles Martin in the 2nd round and then (9)Taylor Venz (Neb) in the wrestlebacks. <Bonus: 4.6%, RPI: .630>

197
Luke McGonigal (So) <Clearfield, PA>

McGonigal took over the starting spot late in the season from Parker McClellan (So). He went 14-8 and didn’t place in the EWL championships going 0-2.

Heavy
Isaac Reid (Fr) <Kiski, PA>

Reid went 16-13 in his redshirt season. He didn’t have any wins against national qualifiers. However, only two of his loses were by bonus (one of which was the 3rd time he faced Seth Nevills).

Last season, Thomas Haines went 24-5 overall and qualified for the NCAA tournament a 3rd time getting the 11 seed. He had a rough tournament going 1-2. After getting teched by #6 seed Amar Dhesi in the 2nd round, Haines dropped into the wrestlebacks and got pinned by #5 seed Mason Parris.

New Faces
Lock Haven doesn’t have any top-20 (in weight class) incoming freshmen. They do have Virginia Tech transfer Cole Manley coming off a redshirt season but it looks like he will be backing up Fehlman/Shoop. Manley went 20-8 in opens, beginning the season at 141 before moving down to 133. The only NCAA qualifier he faced was Yianni and that went about as well as you would imagine.
