NORMAN, Okla. — Sooners offensive tackle Erik Swenson is vying for a starting spot to replace one of four starters from a Joe Moore Award winning unit a season ago. Once upon a time, though, it appeared he might be headed to another school.
Swenson, a 247Sports Composite four-star prospect, was committed to the Michigan Wolverines for nearly a year before de-committing just a couple weeks prior to 2016 Signing Day. He committed to Oklahoma 10 days later and signed the following week. Given his potential impact this season, Riley was asked about that interesting recruitment Tuesday afternoon in a media session.
“I mean, Michigan dropped him, you know, and I’m glad they did,” Riley said. “So he wasn’t good enough to play in Michigan’s offense, but I guess he’s good enough to play in Oklahoma’s, you know? We’re glad it worked out the way it did, and things happen for a reason, and we’re certainly thankful we have him now.”
