700 plus yards deserves at least two threads.
I think Miles Sanders will take that role and run for almost 1500 yards. The 2018 offense will be dynamic with the best Oline and depth in many years. I'm sure Journey will be a exciting part of this team in the years to come though. No way in hell is this kid is not going to be special. He doesn't just do good he EXCELS at everything he does athletically. Basketball, football, track, whatever. He did his 100 meters at 200 lbs. 200 lbs !!!! I think this kid ends up STARTING at tailback in 2018 and we don't miss a beat with Barkley's departure.
Hard to say whether this game - or breaking the 32 year old PIAA 100m Sprint Record set by a future Olympian and 2-time World Record Holder, Leroy Burrell, in 1985 - is more impressive! No question the guy has already performed multiple legendary accomplishments in Pennsylvania sports lore and he's only 18....pretty damn incredible!
Sprint record...no contest.
The 700+ yards, while impressive, came against very poor competition. Many, many Jayvee programs from the Eastern part of the state would roll over most of Meadville's schedule. Not Mr. Brown's fault. Just a fact of life where he resides. I saw a few of his games. I think he will contribute at PSU, but I don't see him as a No. 1 option at tailback. I expect to see him at another position.

Nine other teams played that team, how many other running backs gained 722 yards against them?Sprint record...no contest.

If you go back and closely watch his highlight video you'll see young Mr Brown is far more than just a speed back. He has terrific vision and moves. When you combine that with his burst and straight up speed I think he's going to be special.Nine other teams played that team, how many other running backs gained 722 yards against them?
But many other D-1 players have played against poor competition and none of them gained 722 yards in a game.I'm not knocking Journey Brown. That was a great performance. I'm just trying to put it into context. The football played by the larger schools in D-9 and D-10 (with the exception of the Erie preppies and McDowell) is probably the worst in the state. It is really, really bad. Barkley, Sanders and many more could have put up similar numbers against that level of competition. I saw Company play for Free shuttle back in the day. He, too, was a man among boys playing in NY's smallest school division.

Seriously???Breaking the state 100m record is nothing special. Since Burrell set it, hundreds, if not thousands of kids nationally have run faster.
Seriously???
Yeah, seriously. Yes, it is a terrific accomplishment, but in the overall context of HS sprinting it's nothing more than a very good time.
So in the same thread where his state single season game rushing record is talked down on, his state 100 meter record is also minimized. Put this kid in Texas or Cali and let him train year round and run in good meets with good competition and good weather and he'd run a lot faster. He ran the state record in the rain in Shippensburg.. Leroy Burell was no chump.. Kid's a special athlete. We'll see if he can play football at a high level. I think the competition will bring out the best in him.
