Which players are going to be working at which positions? Who is the closest coach assisting Moorehead ( and therefor possibly becoming his successor IF and when he decides to move on?)
How is the QB play shaking out behind #1? Which RBs are at the top of the depth chart? Who is moving up the chart? Which WRs and TEs are becoming McS's favorites? Whats new in special teams?
The biggie: what is the OL starting lineup looking like? Their top back-ups? The three deep?
How is the O changing to reflect the growth of talent/experience along the OL? Do these guys have a good shot at dominating?
How is Sanders maturing in Year 2? Will we see Journey this season? Where?
Who are our top candidates for punt and KO returns?
Where do the five early enrollees look to contribute this Fall?
Those are a few of the questions I have re: Spring practice, and beyond.
2016 was an amazing year, an improbable turnaround. Which leads to the questions: "Just how good will we be in 2017? " "How well prepared are we to handle adversity, such as injuries to key players? " "WHO are our key players?" "What is the real state of our depth?"
Comparing preseason 2016 to preseason 2017 is like night and day. A new Day has dawned. Our potential seems almost unlimited. But we will have a bullseye on our backs and wont be able to take anyone for granted. Opponents will give us their best shot and we need to be ready for it.
ie we need to control the ball and score early. The D needs to hold opponents to around 20 ppg if we are to remain in the lofty standings. And the O needs to show better balance and score just a few more points. Making more 1st downs and running more time off the clock should assure more victories. Which brings up a different question: Will our O change and revert back to more ball control now that we will be favorites, and the weight of "expectations" comes in to play?
