In 2012 Notre Dame went 12-0 and played for the MNC. The previous year they lost their opener, at home, to South Florida and finished at 8-5. The year before that, 2010, they also went 8-5 and lost to both Navy and Tulsa.
After the 2010 and 2011 many were calling for a coaching change. But Kelly continued to stockpile talent and eventually turned it around. Hopefully Franklin can do the same. IMO one big unknown after Saturday is just how good is Temple? They are much better than I expected. Will they be a 9-3, 10-2 really good team who we will look back on as a quality opponent? Or are they a 6-6 team that dominated us?
I think we need to play very well on Saturday and then blow out Rutgers to put this loss behind us. If I could give Coach Franklin some friendly advice for the near term future - sometimes less is more. I would be less excited each time Paris Palmer or Gesicki gain a half pound and more focused on how they actually play the game. Based on the hype one would think Gesicki was the second coming of John Mackey. Since he was only targeted 1-2 times it would appear he was actually not a very important part of the game plan.
