BB Recruiting Looks like we got UKMC guard RayQuawndis Mitchell

I’m confused by the comment of “He also ranked among the Summit League's top 10 in 3-pointers per game (fourth), minutes (fifth) and shooting percentage (eighth).”…I don’t see how he was 8th in the Summit in shooting percentage, unless only about 9 guys qualify.

We’ll need that shooting percentage to really improve (hopefully less usage will help).

Looks like he made 79 3's with a 30% made percentage. that means he took ~ 240 shots in 32 games. That means he took 7.5 3's per game (assuming my back-of-the-napkin math is correct).

His free throw percentage is good at 83.5%. A good free throw percentage typically means he has the stroke. Then it is a matter of being open and balanced to make the shot. Who knows how good the rest of the team was. I heard a quote the other day about Kobe, when he played with Shaq "he's the best one-on-one player who gets to play one-on-one"...meaning most of the other good ones get double teamed.

17.3 PPG and playing 35.5 minutes per game is pretty good. Plus, at 6-5 and 200 lbs, he can play and defend the wing (SG and SF).

Can he be athletic enough to play against and with more athletic B1G players? Time will tell.

Yeah, one of the things about ball dominant guards who end up having to take a lot of shots at the end of the shot. Clock is their shooting percentage doesn’t necessarily reflect how good they might actually be. If he’s taking eight threes a game and two of them are forced at the end of the shot clock, then his percentages probably 5 to 8% higher if you can restrict him from having to take those type of shots.

Hard to get excited about him. Against poor competition…Poor shooting, low assists, low steals.

I don’t think we have a team yet, but I’d be shocked if he plays more than 4 minutes per game
He’ll certainly have a bigger role than that…he’s not coming here to fit into the very end of the rotation.

I believe he played very well against all the power five teams like Oklahoma. I think he will fit well and play well more than the 4 minutes you suggest. The whole key to the success or failure of this season is 1) Getting all the new players to understand the system and execute so they are solid going into the B1G schedule. 2) Develop a complimentary rotation where the players understand and accept their roles. 3) Avoid major injuries. 4) AD, Bball staff & players need to work together to encourage fan support (i.e. game attendance)
