Lower the jolly rodger...

They should ban the word sad from the internet.

Since that hot start the lame Nuttings are a whopping 5-18.

Sad.
The Bucs won 20 of their 28 games
I actually got a friend to take a bet that they wouldn't win 20 in their next 50. Looking good so far.
This team was always trash. Even bad teams get hot for a while but they'll always come crashing down.
It's just sad that people were actually excited and buying into this. That's what allows ownership to do what they do.

I just heard on The Fan that they only are two games ahead of their pace from last season, when they lost 100 games. I posted in April that I liked the direction that this organization was going and still do, and especially how the G.M. was rebuilding the minor leagues. However, even after the hot start, I only expected them to win in the mid-70s, which would have been good progress; I now doubt that this will happen. With that said, even bad teams in baseball should win more than 6 games in a month; they're obviously not a good team, but their record in May is ludicrous.

The disappointing things with this team are that they still are so fundamentally weak and have a bunch of players who just play unintelligently, players like Hayes on whom they are relying appear to not be developing, and the manager, whom they stupidly resigned back in April, appears to be overmatched tactically and probably will be replaced after another debacle of a season. Regarding the latter, this guy is lucky that he manages the Pirates, because I can't believe that he would've survived this young considering how bad his records have been.

This season has devolved into one in which they just are throwing a bunch of garbage against a wall and hoping that something sticks. In all sports, it seems as if some teams are successful because there is so much expectation when you put on a certain team's uniform even if the sum of the parts isn't that great (think Steelers). The Pirates are the exact opposite.

Two words: Bob Nutting.

Until this white collar criminal is forced to sell, nothing changes.

I'm sure that he is a big part of the problem. However, the baseball people have done a terrible job of developing their so-called prospects. I mean, two seasons ago, they drafted a catcher from Louisville as the number one pick in the whole draft. Well, two years later, this player, whom I believe already is 23 or 24 years old, only is at AA Altoona. My guess is that in other organizations, he already would be on the MLB roster, or at the very least in AAA and on the verge of making MLB.

Also, like I said, organizations that have been winning for years, like the Cardinals, Dodgers, Yankees and Braves, continually call up minor leaguers who look so much more prepared to play MLB than the Pirates minor leaguers who are called up. That tells me that those organizations just have a winning culture and probably better coaches in the minors than the Pirates do.

For example, everyone know Dylan Crews should be the top pick but the reality the Bucs will try save slot money to use elsewhere and take a lesser player. Nutting and the baseball people are issues.

They are the worst ownership of any team, in any sport I've ever seen. If Pirate fans had true love for baseball, they'd stop going.
Agree but it is one of the best places to watch a game in the nation. I love the Guardian's stadium but feel PNC is better. I have gone to both SFO and San Diego which I think are nicer. I've been to a dozen others and can't think of one I'd prefer to watch a game in. I loved Cubs and Red Sox but it wasn't for the stadium, really. It was about the tradition and feel. Regardless, it is a great fan experience except for the quality of team on the field.

The AA catcher isn't up with the big team because if they wait another week or 2 they will gain 1 more year of contract control. He is not going to make them a playoff contender this year so why rush him? He is also working on his defense.

Fyi. I'm going to my 1st game in 4 or more years on Saturday.

Camden Yards in Baltimore is the greatest park in MLB, and I'm not an Orioles fan. I've been to most, and the one's you've mentioned are gorgeous.

Nothing compares to that warehouse in right field. The gem of the shi*hole Baltimore.

Wear a paper bag over your head. Nope, not kidding.

The latest to be filed under "Could only play for the Pirates" 😆: Chris Owings: .185 average, just popped bunted Into a double play to end a rally...what a joke.

Connor Joe drives in winning runs.

Connor contract is $735, 000.

Fully guaranteed.

In June so far: 6-2
Unfortunately, they lost another stater for the season with elbow surgery.

Milwaukee lost last night to the A’s; as of now, it doesn’t appear as if any team in this division is capable of pulling away, so I think that the Pirates can hang in the division race until the All Star break, and then the GM will have to decide whether to buy or sell.

Unfortunately, pitching will be a major problem for the rest of the season. Will probably need to call up Priester soon out of necessity.

It doesn't matter who they call up or draft, this team is void of any pitching coaching! When's the last time we actually had home grown pitching, that we developed, amount to anything? Until this team actually puts a competent staff together to develop young talent they're destined to be mediocre which is fine with this piss poor ownership.

The last was Cole, who had really good seasons in 2014 and 2015 and even made an All Star team. Keller actually has a good chance to make the All Star team this season, although he really hasn’t pitched that well in his last three starts.

By the way, the A’s beat Milwaukee again today. When all is said and done, the Reds actually may play themselves into contending for this division because they have several good young players, including pitchers, who just need to mature a little bit; they’ll probably be a really hard team to play next season.

Cole was plug and play, he had "it" from day one and just needed to take the field. He's still pitching at an elite level and would look great back in a Bucco uniform. I've been a staunch supporter of the Pirates and have no dream of them ever being relevant again in my lifetime unless new ownership that actually wants to win takes over.

To have 3 of your 8 pitchers on the 40 man roster need Tommy John or a hybrid of it makes me worried about pitching coaching. Are the pirates coaches in the entire system not teaching sound mechanics?

I remember when Washington drafted Strasburg there was an article about how his delivery was destined to destroy his elbow. I think it had quotes from another 1st round pitcher or maybe that kis pitching coach. Anyway, It was spot on. Coaches didn't fix it and his career never played out as expected despite his physical talent.
