Manny Diaz?

Is there some smoke here? I had a buddy just call me and say he was coming to State College. However, I can't find it anywhere mentioned.

I think I have seen posts from you that have mentioned Elijah Robinson, Anthony Poindexter, Derrick Mason, and now Manny Diaz as our next DC? I follow an inside source on social media who provides student services to the Penn State Football Team and is friends with some of the players, and he said on the day that Poindexter decided to stay at Penn State that Penn State has verbally agreed with its new Defensive Coordinator and it is not Poindexter. The fact that Texas A&M is still recruiting and getting defensive line commits leads me to believe that it is not Elijah Robinson but I could be wrong. Manny Diaz would be a homerun hire if we could get him, but his Miami buyout was very large so he could take his time finding a new job or he could be a DC candidate at Oklahoma or Clemson (if Elliott leaves).

I have mentioned all of those people, except AP.....it is called speculation in order to create discussion about anything other than an Email exchange with Spanier or rehashing the whole Sandusky Trial for the 100th time.

Here is what I have mentioned:

Robinson was the only Texas A & M Coach not at Enayi Whites in home visit. If he since has been back on the road recruiting then that speculation meant nothing.

The Derek Mason speculation came, as stated then, from the same person that told me the Outback Bowl was going to be the Bowl.

I got a call today asking if I heard it was going to be Diaz, so I simply asked if anyone had heard that because, as stated, I couldn't find it anywhere.

PS: Tony Elliot is the OC at Clemson. What Tony Elliot does has no bearing on what Manny Diaz will do.

Perhaps being able to pay up for big name assistants like Diaz is one of the primary reasons Franklin has pushed the administration so hard to commit more fully financially to the football program and it wasn’t for the purely selfish reasons many haters on this board suggested. Crazy idea, I know.

Fair amount of smoke on one of TOS that Diaz is the guy. My take is pretty darn good DC but not a good recruiter [as evidenced by Miami classes]

Franklin said he wants a head coach of the defense. We need a LB coach. If Seider leaves we need a Florida recruiter.
Check…check….check
ugh with the Seider again........if Seider leaves we will be just fine in Florida with or without Diaz.

I’m going to catch hell for saying this but how about Ex LSU Head man Ed O? That would be interesting.

Bob Shoop is probably the connection. He was an analyst for The U.

I don't think Shoop left PSU on the best of terms, though he did work with Franklin for a while (at Vandy before PSU). But even so, wouldn't Shoop himself be trying to get the DC position rather than recommending Diaz or anyone else?

Who knows? You could be right. I do know most of these guys all tend to look out for each other come hell or high water in most cases.

He filed a damn law suit against Franklin, talk about a way to burn a bridge

What was the backstory? I don’t recall how it all went down.
Something about poor working conditions, mis treatment. Rumor said it has something to do with Mrs. Shoop and Mrs. Franklin having a falling out. It was very strange. Ill google it. Of course penn state settled it. Shoop owed the school a $800,000 buyout and basically he filed a counterclaim saying he was mistreated. They probably split the difference. I'm no lawyer, but he referenced "intolerable" working conditions, hahahahha

Even more bizarre was Shoop's son Tyler remaining on the PSU football team after he left for Tennessee. Odd behavior if his father was indeed mistreated.

This was Shoop trying to get out of paying his buyout, nothing more. Karma caught up with him at Tennessee and Mississippi State.

Strange indeed. Thanks for the rundown.

This lost all credibility with the excellent recruiter reference to Diaz
Well when your team finished 10th and 13th in national recruiting rankings the previous 2 years out of 130 teams that’s not bad. I’m sure guys like Mack Brown, Mark Richt and Dan Mullen wouldn’t have hired him if he was a total dud in recruiting. Maybe excellent is stretching it a bit but he can recruit.

He's a solid recruiter. The coaching is the bigger question mark, but I guess we'll see.

The word I heard on the street: There was a party. Every coach wife was invited but ms swoop. Ms swoop found out. Mr swoop had to leave or risk his marriage. His argument was that PSU made his position untenable so he should be paid. While they didn’t fire him, by treating his family the way they did, he was tacitly fired.

Kind of like Justin Fields and UGA - they are a bunch of racists so I have to transfer and should not sit out a year but the school is fine for my sister to stay on the softball team even after I leave.

If you mean filed a lawsuit about "intolerable working conditions" then yea that would fall under not best of terms. LOL.
Meanwhile those conditions were so bad that his son stayed.
