I think PSU played quite well actually. Ran the ball successfully, some good passes. However, I feel that the defense was not well prepared. Needed more of a Manny Diaz attacking defense. Allen must go. Also, team discipline poor, Bad penalties. That said, they can do well in the playoffs and I look forward to them succeeding.

The 4 personal fouls within the first 20 minutes of the game hurt. The remainder of the officiating, I’m not going to bother you all with my whining. We lost, let’s move forward.

I've been frusturated with Allen from time to time, but he can't get fired nor should he. Our LBs are weak, we won 11 games and are going to the playoff, our defensive stats are really strong. Just not firing him and buying out his contract, it's not reasonable.

We need an upgrade in talent, without a doubt. This group is definitely top 10, but we just haven't had the horses to put down a top 5 team twice this year.

That being said, Oregon's defense played just as bad as ours did minus 2 turnovers. Even then, they more or less capitalized on poor throws more so than forcing them. Are they wanting to fire anybody?

Need consistency within obtaining talent seems like we hit a top 5-10 recruiting class then 3-4 classes which are not. Probably not a good reason for it other than Penn state isn’t for everyone?

We made mistakes and didn’t force any. At least none that were called. We also missed an FG. Oregon has great experience in playoff games and our kids don’t. The stats show we outplayed them but gave them a a head start. They just played a flawless game. That is what we have to do.

Yup. We played well enough to win offensively and I think Andy K did a great job scheming. Allar played well except for the two picks which killed us and missing Warren down the seam when he was wide open. We ended up missing a fg. The offensive line played their best game of the year and our backs ran hard and well.
The defense is a different story. We seemed lost and almost like we hadn't seen any film. I know their receivers are good but Oregon had guys running wide open all over the field all night. And we were terrible against the run too.
Tom Allen has not had the defense ready to play all year in the first quarter. I wasn't sold on his hire and I think we could have done a lot better.
I think if Andy leaves that will really suck. He's a legit mad scientist.

We better win the first game at home. The fans will not be happy with a 10-3 finish that could drop us out of the top 10.

I am seeing SMU or Clemson. Mostly Clemson.

Does anyone really care about a final “ranking”?
Who flipping cares if you’re not number one.

Yes and no. Seedlings is all that matters. But the seedlings are informed by the rankings

It was primarily one WR running open, but they schemed the one TE into 2 TDs during a season he had 0 TDs coming in.

I think the biggest flaw in Allen's scheme is our LBs aren't strong enough to control the opposition run game. Our safeties are asked to be perfect. Play downhill, but cover the entire field.

Still, I saw the same problem from Oregon's defense. The middle was open all night and we rushed better than they did and we played from behind the entire game.

Maybe, just maybe, the indoors made for a fast track and it benefit the offense more?

Yep. The problem is falling behind early made the game a track meet. Had we been able to control the game by rushing, keeping their offense off the field, we may have had a different result. A track meet put their strength, WRs, against our weakness (WRs).

Understand your frustration, but that Duck QB had a very quick release and their receivers were special quick. Not sure our current personnel could get to QB consistently. Not to mention holding by Oregon because our front should have got better pressure. My opinion is Oregon beats the blitz consistently. Watching the game I felt a zone and good hard tackling immediately after catch was our only hope.

Just my opinion.

I don’t know; I was pretty happy finishing #3 in 1991, as one example.

That's my point. Even the BGSU QB had a great day vs PSU. They knew the pressure was coming do they went with quick release passes. Our rush over pursued and there was often an open area vacated by s blitzing LB or DB.

Opponents game plan to counter our pressure.

AS the game progressed, I was zoned into the Oline. The blocking scheme was great, and the blocking was the best I have seen from a Penn State line in years. Who would have thought that against the highest ranked and undefeated Oregon the Oline would block so well that Singleton and Allen both would run for over 100 yards with great yards per carry.
Rucci who previously seemed to be a weak link was sturdy. The guards were physical and moving the defenders several yards and opening up huge holes and gave up only 1 sack and protected Allar quite well on passing plays.
It is a shame Allen called a horrible D game. And the officials permitted Oregon to hold on countless plays even though at times I could observe a ref watching the action and just letting the hold go without penalty. The late game interception was the result of a hold on Wallace and impeding his run.
