Marcus Allen to the Steelers

Love this pick!

Me too. Now what do you think they (Steelers) do for a LBR? I think trade is about the only option left, at least to get a LBR that will be ready to play.
I know they lost an OL to FA but was it really necessary for them to take one in the 3rd?

Yeah, not sure. Edmunds has a better shot at bulking up if they want to go that route - he's nearly 220 lbs. (Allen is 202). May have to punt on LB this year and focus next year.

Going to have to...
I would have liked this pick if the rest of the draft was different. Happy for Allen though
I see what you guys getting are getting at, but there's no rule that we have to draft an ILB to replace 50, maybe the staff likes what they have on the roster.
VWill98, Fortt, and remember we got Jon Bostic. Bud and TJ outside, plus Chick and Matakevich. We'll be fine at LB....Colbert won't reach for a position of perceived need, he's gonna take the best player at a position that needs upgrading. Maybe the LBs avaialable have been viewed as reaches or poor fits to our scheme.
I.e., like with CJF, I trust the staff.

I listened to his interview this morning and Edmunds said he played both safety positions in college as well as situational linebacker. They also just signed safety Morgan Burnett to a three year deal and he's listed at 209 lbs for what it's worth .

Hmm thats an interesting idea, really wouldn't have to add too much.
From what all the "experts" said this wasn't a really good year for LB's, especially after you get past the 2nd round.
Speaking of LB's I love what Denver has done in the draft so far. I haven't seen any "report cards" yet but I would give Denver and A+. Ok, full disclosure I've got a man crush on Hamilton on what he does both on and off the field, so that probably moved their grade up some. LOL.
But I thought the pick of Josey Jewel was excellent.

Denver just picked another Big Ten player Troy Fumagalli (TE out of Wisconsin). Solid pick in the 5th round.

My comments aren't about Shazier. Neither Edmunds or Allen have the speed you want. Both are better in run support. I've said all along that I think Edmunds was drafted to play LB. I hope Allen is a better NFL player than I expect. Run support safeties just don't have the value that they used to.

They don’t do anything. While the 3-4 is their “base” defense, they actually spend 70% or more of the time in nickel and dime. As such, they need safeties more than linebackers (unless they are unique like Shazier) and will attempt to fill the void left by Shazier’s injury that way. Had they been able to draft one of three or four linebackers they had targeted that ended up being drafted before they picked, they would have pulled the trigger, but otherwise safety was plan B. They also already have Bostic that they signed as a free agent. Read an article along these lines this morning.

Thanks. Good info.
