I'm up here in St. Paul for the MN State Tournament and figured I'd try to give ya'll some updates on the future Nittany Lion. Hall helped his Apple Valley Eagles win their 6th State title while he was competing. Today, he begins his quest for a record 6th State Title (Nobody has ever won 6, very few have ever won 5). Some in MN have the idea that since he repeated 7th grade from Kentucky to MN that this is tainted, but we have the opportunity to see some real history on Saturday from one of the best to ever do it in MN.

Some highlights from his team campaign:
1. He got a takedown in under 5 seconds. He's out here trying to set records left and right.
2. He bumped up to 182 and got a match against MN stud recruit Lucas Jeske (pretty sure he was a Fargo Runner-Up, this summer). He pinned Jeske. Hall's pin on a St. Michael stud cost STMA a team point. STMA and Valley have battled for AAA supremacy in MN in recent years. Many get after Valley for having move-ins and transfers, but STMA has also had their fair share, lately.

Today and tomorrow are the individual tournament. I will try to update this after his first two matches, tonight/tomorrow morning.

Thanks, CropDuster...
If Mark were to wrestle next year (instead of redshirting) where would you project him? 174? maybe 165?

I think he could get down to 165 and be fine, competing. However, I'd guess that he'll continue to try to bulk and build into 174. I don't think he's ever been much of a weight-cutter.

I would think with his international aspirations he would want to stay near his international weight of 163.

Great updates...and Thank You. Keep 'em coming!!

This. His age vs burrows age would make me think he could be heir to the thrown in 2020 and beyond. Obviously a lot happens between now and then but he doesn't look to me like an 83kg guy.

I think Mark's plan is to bulk up for 174 at PSU knowing the weigh ins for FS allow for him to drop more easily.

Yowzaaa

So, if Nevills is at 197 who is your candidate for 285? Cassar? BTW, I like your lineup. That is going to be a killer lineup. Someone posted it will eventually come to an end. I don't think so, at least not with Cael at the helm. He doesn't seem like the type to just let it ride.

There's more than 1 Nevills.

Yowzaaa, and whoops forgot Cutch n Rasheed could be a big factor yet
I think Rasheed is going 184 next year. With his lentgh he would be an Ed Ruth type. I think Bo stays at 174 since Rasheed is taller than Bo right now. If Rasheed hits the weights hard he will be very tough at 184.

With lineups like these and the surge of NCState and VaTech, not to mention Cornell, the epicenter of college wrestling appears to be shifting to the east coast. Bad news for our friends in the mid-west, but VERY good news for us.

What about Mouse?
Mouse will not be in the line up if Rasheed goes 184 next year which he should. It won't even be close if Rasheed hits the weights hard. For those who have been to practices they know what i mean. A good feeling Rasheed will shock a lot of people.

Rasheed reminds me a lot of Ruth if he can just get to the right weight. Just needs about one more year in the room. I would love to see him at 184 next year.

Good Lord are you delusional. He is nothing like Ruth. He wrestles recklessly.

I just got back to the hotel. As I said in the IA-NCST thread, I got the opportunity to announce on a webcast for the State Tournament. I decided to do the AAA big-school class. First round, I had all of the #1 seeds in the tournament. Introducing Mark Hall as a "Penn State commit" felt great.

Mark pinned his first two opponents with relative ease. He'll have 2 matches to make history, tomorrow. Hoping he ends up with Eichmann of Hastings in the finals, though, I don't see anyone going all 3 periods with him.

Funny enough, I went to meet with the other announcers and stuff beforehand at a higher floor of the arena. They had a "Penn State fan section" sign above a chair facing the wall, directly away from the action. All in good fun.

Its not that simple, nor is Shakur Rasheed Ed Ruth
Not saying he is Ed Ruth...He has the potential to be like him and sooner than later if he can hit the weights and feel good. Heck he is bigger and longer then Bo right now. I think he would do really well at 184.

I think he would do well at 184 and would love to see what would happen between him and Cutch but he will never, ever, ever "be like" Ed Ruth.

I personally think Mark Hall is the best high school wrestler I have ever seen. And I also think he is going make the transition to collage and international very smooth. And one of the best things about him is he can probably go any weight he is needed from 65-84 and win a national title

Yes. I can not wait till he arrives. Is he coming in June ? Does anyone know. He could train with some great partners from the NLWC along with the guys already on the roster.

Didn't know where to put him. Doubt he can challenge Nolf or Zain as he

Maybe a year out in Colorado
Okay. I was hoping he would come and train at Penn State. Hey who knows he may be able to start as a freshman. However a red shirt year would really help him make a run for the title. The Oly are only a couple months away. I don't understand why he would be going out to Col. at this time. It's not like he is going to beat JB and a few others at this time.

I just got home from the tournament, as I live an hour and a half away. Mark picked up two tech falls on the way to winning his 6th individual title. The place gave him a great standing ovation, as the ref raised his hand multiple times (However, sidebar, the ref probably did it for his own photo-op. I'm not a fan.)

This is where this post becomes about me, now. So, I've been a big wrestling fan since I was in Middle School. Like, reading forums and articles and watching Flo like crazy. I've watched PSU live one time, when they lost to MN a couple years back, now, in MN. While I coach a FS/GR club at my old HS (I'm 23), D1 coaches are still like, rockstars to me. I met Brands once. Well, he got after me because I pressed him about something at team camp and he didn't like my arrogant attitude. Other than that, like I said... Rockstars.

So, I finished announcing a round, and sit near my hometown guys, awaiting the semis this morning. I get a text from my old teammate that is sitting in the absolute nosebleeds with others I wrestled with: "Cael is up here. Serious." And everybody from my hometown dogs me for being a PSU fan, so I'm like, "Sure he is. $&*# you." My buddy then sends me a Snapchat, circling his head, behind them. Snapchat is a picture sending app, for the older crowd. My other buddy tells me that he's talking to him.

Of course, I had to go up there. I sat for a bit, and as I was leaving the area, I fanboy'd out and had to say hi and shake his hand (You know, probably the opposite of what the guy wants to do when he's there on business, hence sitting in the nosebleeds.) I explained that I'm a huge fan and lose all of my dignity within moments, with rapid-paced speech. We ended up having a 20+ min conversation about the tournament, holding nationals at the Xcel Center, National Duals, MN Wrestling, recruiting, etc. He was so genuine and a great conversation-holder. I expected him to answer questions and want to be left alone. He kept leading the conversation and what-not, as we tossed around ideas. I was bewildered.

He then left, saying his ride was there to pick him up (Honestly, if that was his exit-strategy, I wouldn't blame him, but he seemed super genuine.) We shook hands and said he'd be back later for the finals.

Point is, I realize that I sound like a 12 year old girl meeting a member of One Direction, but Cael Sanderson made this Penn State fan's, and this wrestling fan's day, today. I don't know, man. I don't care what kind of crap I catch for this, but I met a real-life hero of mine. What a fantastic day.
