Great news for human habitation on Mars. An experiment on the Mars rover called MOXIE has shown that oxygen can be extracted from the CO2 on Mars. This small experiment produces enough to support a small dog. So we can send up a larger unit well ahead of humans to make enough oxygen and have some ready when humans arrive.
Additionally, we all know there is substantial water on Mars so this means we can also make rocket fuel. Which means we don’t have to bring enough for a return trip to Earth but can make that on Mars..
A huge step towards our first step on Mars!
