Maryland Recruiting Article..........Penn State knocking again

You know, that article and a few other things I've read indicate we may be in a better position with TCF than is generally viewed on this board. His delay in announcing his commitment seems to have given us the belief that he is going to switch his favorite to Maryland. Perhaps that is not so.

One thing I've learned is that there are things none of us are aware of in the background. Ellis Brooks is an example. When Brooks' comments after his visits seemed lukewarm, we were concerned. Turns out, PSU was always his dream school!

Don't count us out on TCF yet. CJF is magic.

Maryland fans may be more delusional than those from Rutgers; at least those fans know they'll never be good. And the one comment was hilarious - 'Maryland has a higher academic and athletic profile than Penn State...' HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!
No fans are more delusional than Rutgers and Pitt fans. Maryland's jealousy, envy, and resentful levels have not reached that point yet. Buttgers and sPitt are in a class of their own.

WE will see how next years recruiting class goes for Durkin after he goes possibly 4-8 with that daunting schedule that they have. The honeymoon will soon be over.

It's really hard for me to imagine the irrational bitter hatred that people have toward Penn State. After reading comments like the ones attached to that article, I often try to put myself in their position. I try to think about something in my lifetime that had absolutely no impact on me whatsoever (like the JS scandal on these random people who post comments to newspaper articles) and imagine how much hatred I can drum up. There is nothing there. Nothing that would motivate me to post vile, hate-filled comments on an anonymous newspaper comment section. Why does it bother them so much? My only conclusion is the ass-whippings that Joe's teams laid on them.

That's cute.

Hang on. I thought The Coolest Fish was a stone cold lock. We desperately need his speed.

Yea some of the comments were pretty pathetic.
The one guy trots out the PITT student throwing the beer at tOSU kids. LOL.
They must have gotten all the rabid MD fans to comment in that article, all 20 of them.
I seldom hear anything about the Terps in Balto. from their fans. Sometimes they talk about the mens and womens BBall team and LAX is huge around here but thats about it.
MD LAX probably gets more support than their football team. LOL.

I read the article and when I reached its conclusion, I simply X'd out. No need to waste time reading the comments from a bunch of uninformed hacks.

The jist of the article, to me, says enjoy the recruiting success of the turtle, but keep in mind that the resurgent titan to the north isn't going to go away.

All of these regional rivals, your Pitt's, your Maryland's, your Rutgers'....all their fans thought Penn State would be down for a decade or more after the scandal. They thought all of the talent and attention would flow to their teams. The fact that it never happened, and in fact it appears Penn State is about to become the power it was in the 80s once again, is extremely disheartening to these folks. Of course, the other aspect is they want to continue to drag PSU's name in the mud to reach the public and recruit's ears. Let's be honest. It's a targeted response.

Yea I'm thinking even 4 wins is generous given all the new players they will be breaking in. guessing Not to mention a true freshman QB, unless they trot out the backup who stunk it up against us, Pigrome.

The comments section in all "online" articles is a level of hell even Dante didn't foresee.
I have no idea what motivates people like that to make such hateful comments about EVERYTHING.
You could have someone cure Cancer and I'm willing to bet 90% of the comments would be about his or her race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or political party affiliation. Its really pathetic.

Plus 1000. That is especially true of pitt fans. They thought our players and recruits would transfer and flock to them. It didn't happen. Of course they all tried to couch it by saying "think about the kids". but they didn't give 2 shits about any of those kids.
If they did they would stop trying to pin everything on Joe and PSU and go after the major players that allowed that to go on and continue to go on.

Notice the position of the penis in the graphic below: Limp and the scrotum that looks more like empty sack covered by hairs. That sums UM football. Crabcakes.... now that's another matter.

Take this and add PSU's all-time record against UMD (37-2-1) and you'll understand the hatred. Has to suck losing to Big Brother all those years and just when you think you might catch up to (or even pass) him, he has a late growth spurt and is poised to kick your @ss for many years to come!

I'm not forgetting the no-handshake incident. That was one of the most disgraceful things I've seen in college football and it said something very bad about Maryland culture that the coaches and Maryland administration winked at it. I was actually feeling good about Maryland in the Big Ten but not after that.

I hope PSU beats Maryland without mercy for the next 20 years -- on the scoreboard and physically. And now that PSU's talent level and depth are returning to historical norms, PSU may be able to do it.

You definitely have a point there. It's either up or out. And that happens quick.

I live just south of B'more, and work in a place with people from all over the country. I get a lot of comments, mostly about the Steelers, from Ravens fans and fans of many other teams. I get comments from fans of OSU, UM, and a few fans of other CFB teams, none of which are UMd. I often see people wearing Terps gear, but none of them do much talking. I think the article's comments section is an example of anonymous internet dolts having their "day in the sun."

US News rates Penn State 50th among national universities, Maryland 60th. Lots of things involved, and who knows about UN News and World Report, but...

I have no idea of the validity of any of these academic rankings, nor would I venture to guess what impact the scandal had on those opinions. I think it's safe to say that both schools are pretty evenly matched.

PSU has 48 NCAA titles, Maryland has 27, of which 21 were won by their women's field hockey and lacrosse teams.

I think a slight majority of the recruiting trackers believe he is a PSU-lean.

What this gentleman said. (Or woman) God forbid I'm not PC.

Imagine what the anti-vaxxers would be posting about Dr. Jonas Salk and his new fangled polio vaccine.

I certainly wasn't impressed watching him on the sideline during the PSU game. Spent most of the game reacting emotionally (i.e. negatively) to what was on the field. Didn't seem to be communicating much with players. Maryland has some talent but they didn't seem to put out for him in that game. It didn't help that their best defensive player was thrown out after laying Joe Julius out on a KO return.

Anyway, by contrast, I really grew to like Franklin's sideline presence. He's clearly engaged with play calls, clock management etc., but he's also constantly engaged with the players in a positive way. Not that he's not criticizing but he seems to be 2/3 positive to 1/3 negative at least.

And the PSU team plays HARD for him. Yes PSU had talent but they won 2-3 games on pure HEART and that comes from player leadership but it also comes from confidence which is instilled by coaching.

Anyway, Durkin had absolutely none of that going on, at least against PSU. He didn't seem to like his team very much.
