Only 2 that would could have/would have logged significant playing time. JJ who could have been a force (if his hands were healed, but would have blocked other blue chip WR) and Gellerstedt if there were multiple OL injuries. CJF will pick up a grad transfer WR and OL and the net loss is 0.

Is Irv Charles transferring? I dont remember seeing that.

Wasn't he technically kicked off the team? If so, Manny Bowen should be on that list.

Irv gave up football to focus more on community and youth program development. Perhaps the list needs tweaking. It is my understanding that he does not have an interest in transferring anywhere to play football.

I was under the impression that Monroe could have competed to start at Safety for 2019. But if he is transferring he was likely told that his chances to win the job were slim. I'm still surprised Monroe has not found a new home.

The players I would like to see still return are Monroe, if only for special teams, Charles, and McPherson. Charles was a wrecking ball on special teams, made a good many special teams tackles, and if he returned he would be a special teams leader. He obviously loves the PSU campus life, by the fact that he stayed and got his degree after he got in the dog house. McPherson, if he stays, will have a hard time seeing too much playing time at CB. But he is a good player and would only be an injury or two away from significant playing time.

I wish JJ well and hope he finds a home, but as a fan I'm ready to see the young talent at WR take the field. Catching a football is not rocket science. Either you can do it or you can't....

Charles was a wrecking ball on ST alright, wrecked our field position multiple times with inane penalties.

Wow, a lot of football powerhouses on that list.

I know he has made his announcement on twitter but I hope Zech McPherson changes his mind and comes back, would be great to have some veteran depth at CB

Unlike Wade, he is graduating the spring. So this is his window to use the grad transfer rule. If he doesn't do it now, he won't be able to transfer at all, unless he drops a level.

Plus lots of new schollies for the young and aspiring. So might lean towards the positive, provided the kids are happy with their choices.

I had heard rumors that JJ was looking at Oregon.

I thought Torrence Brown would have been a very good addition to our DL this past year.

I agree. But unless I'm mistaken he "retired." My understanding is that if he wants to play, he cannot by rule return to PSU. I think he goes into the Adam Brenneman catagory.

There is no such rule. You can "retire" and then play again. Franklin actually wanted Breneman to come back to PSU once he decided to give it a go again.

I stand corrected then. I thought that once you "retired" and I assume your scholarship was honored without counting against the 85, you could not play again at that school. If not, its an excellent way to stockpile talent.

I'm not sure you could stockpile talent that way since once you "retire" and as long as you're retired you're basically just a student assistant coach. Probably not many talented guys that would sign up for that. That'd probably be harder than getting a doctor to sign off on your "injury" being career-ending.

I'm just a little confused how a doctor signs off indicating that you have career ending injuries and then a few months later you can transfer and play elsewhere. Don't you think that this can be used to manipulate the 85 limit?

But didn't someone here (Art, perhaps) state that if a player returns to the team he will count toward that 85? So stockpiling is unlikely in such a case.

I'm not doing a good job articulating my premise. Let's say I have 5 quality DE and one has a nagging injury. He "retires," 2 of the other 4 graduate and he heals to play for us again.

It could, but for as rarely as it happens, it must not be that enticing. You do see a medical scholarship was a way to process guys though.

Retiring doesn't save you any eligibility though. Your clock still ticks. Trying to game the system that way wouldn't benefit the player, only a team at 85 'ships. And it's common for teams to always have 1-2 open going into a season.

Yea I have no idea about how all that went down.
I just remember after him getting hurt and that there were rumors it
was much worse than we thought. And at that time he was really starting to play well. He could have made a difference on this past years DL.
Good luck to him.

I think it may still remain to be seen how effective Brown is at Southern Miss.

You're on to something. By rule, if someone medically retires and wants to return at the same school he has to be counted against the 85 for the year(s) he sat out. If the school had room, no problem. If it didn't the NCAA's solution is to apply it against the following year. Purpose is as you suggest, to prevent a school from dicking around with its roster and effectively having more than 85 on scholarship.

Boy, how the mighty have fallen...wasn't Jenkins a 4 or 5 star recruit?? Now, at Duquesne??

Is there a timeline for when these transfers need to be accepted at a new school? Seems as though it puts teams in limbo. Or it is accurate that once they enter the portal the school can release the scholarship?

Scholarship can be zapped at the end of the Spring term, just like any other scholarship.

Anoma enters portal for the second time. . .

Alabama outside linebacker Eyabi Anoma entered the NCAA transfer portal for the second time this offseason on Sunday.

The 6-foot-5, 252-pound former five-star prospect from Maryland was not enrolled in classes as of last Friday.

The Crimson Tide open practice later this week.

Anoma earned a spot on the SEC all-freshman team last season when he appeared in 12 games and registered two tackles for loss.

An article I read last week commented that with all the injuries at CB that have resulted in the need to burn Wilson's redshirt, it would have been good if McPherson was still on the team as a backup CB.

I believe Monroe is starting at Safety for Temple, the 2nd best program in Pennsylvania....
