Matt Rhule fired by Panthers (nfm)

It is my opinion that, as a country, the United States would be a better place if the general populace read a book, or spent time with their family, or did a million other productive things, rather than sitting on their a$$ every Sunday to watch the NFL. If you agree to disagree I don't really care.
To your 2nd point, due to many factors I haven't been to a PSU game in more than 30 years. When I donate to the college of my choice it is always to their academic scholarship fund, never to an athletic dept.
So why are you discussing football? So confused

Think long and hard son, you'll figure it out. Or, maybe not.
I won't because you're rambling nonsense about how there's too much money involved in the NFL and people shouldn't spend their money on what they want but should read a book yet here you are talking about football...

Either you don't like or understand (or both) capitalism and think how you choose to live your life is how everyone should

Nebraska and Wisconsin have good shots at Rhule and Leipold. The Big Ten West could use some head coaching upgrades. If I was a Badger I would take either over Leonhard.

Agree 100%. The outrageous salary numbers tossed around pro football, however, point to what I believe is a level of 'dedication' from its fans that make it far more problematic than golf, fishing or probably any other hobby or pastime.
I don’t know, look how much money is spent every year on golf and fishing? Hell, people watch both of those on TV….how lazy do you have to be to watch fishing on TV? Too lazy to even go fishing, have to watch it on TV. And how much money does Tiger Woods make? How about other pro golfers? One could say they make way too much money as well.

Arnold Palmer & Mark McCormick invented modern day marketing of athletes. They all need to tip their cap as they pass Latrobe.
Golfers earn their pay for actual performance, except on LIV, there is no hiding behind the performance or protection of teammates. Golfers literally only get paid if they perform well. If a pro quarterback, or college one for that matter under NIL, goes 13-37 with 4 INTs he gets paid all the same.

Not saying any golfer, fisherman or football coach makes too much money. I personally do think it is sad that as a country our collective priorities are such that those salaries are as high as they are. If society valued things other than football more, again in my opinion, I think the country overall would be a better place.
The movie Idiocracy by Mike Judge predicts a future I think we are on the path toward and IMO that is sad.

There is some truth to this but the money is sports is all sycophant based marketing, propoganda, smoke and mirrors. People love being involved with athletes for some weird reason. We venerate them. Meanwhile we give teachers, nurses and social workers $hit for collectively bargaining so they can live an "average" financial life. It's sickening, makes me want to puke.

Yeah, Mel Tucker somehow turned 5-7 at Colorado into the Michigan State job then got PAID for one good season
Mel Tucker caught lightning in a bottle last season not so much this year.Msu threw tons of money at him afraid of losing him and now for better or worse they are on the hook
The money that’s being tossed around for one season wonders is crazy

Curious why you are posting these comment on a football thread.

And one could say coaches earn their pay based on performance as well. A very small percentage of them make a ton of money….most coaches don’t make much.

I think rhule will take a college job soon. The caveat is always that of the psu job opens he’ll come home. But if he rebuilds your program does it matter

Even if we move on from Franklin I wouldn't want anything to do with Rhule right now

He built two programs that were dead to respectability. He coached in nfl. Regardless of success there college football is the jv league. Lots of guys have failed in nfl and excelled in college no comparison none

I'm not impressed with anything done at Temple. Golden's rise was dropping to the MAC. See Geoff Collins. Rhule did it in the AAC and we see his record against top 25 teams. Baylor wasn't dead--he just had to get through the BS. Notice Aranda did the same thing after one bad year when Rhule left. I'm not even talking about the NFL. I'm not impressed with his college resume. There's better guys out there IMO. Saying he "excelled in college" is not factual. Do you need his record and record against top 10/25 teams again? Please refer to Golden and Collins.

Having said all that, Franklin was my top choice when O'Brien left so I could be wrong about this as well. The fact you're think everyone has to believe Rhule should be our next coach is illogical and irrational. If he's your choice great--I just hope you don't get what you want.

I was thinking the exact opposite....if we can get him in an advisor role A la Bama (pun intended) why wouldn't we accept his perspective, allow him to transition back into college while not having to do all of the recruiting and public relations of a head coach while making $800k per month via Panthers?

Don't know if Mrs. Rhule is a Penn Stater or not, but maybe they spend a year or two back in State College waiting for an ideal situation? He's got nothing to lose...and quite possibly enjoys his family with relative stability for a bit? Danny Rocco is in a similar spot with us after getting broomed by Delaware...Why Not?

Oh--okay--yes, I'd bring him as a consultant but not as a HC. Sorry, I should have been clear on that. Good point.

When your average Joe Muttonhead puts more value on how his football team does rather than his job, family, etc, to the point where the value of a game is driven up to where a fired coach gets $40 mil as a parting gift I, personally, think that is sad.
I should clarify that the handful of pro football games I've ever attended in my life were tickets given to me and I rarely, if ever, watch pro football.
Again, just me and just sayin...
You are watching pro football (minor league) every Saturday.
