MBB Buttler at PSU, 8:30 on FS1

Dorset didn't even jump on opening tip. This team is SMALL

Pretty sloppy. The offense is created by Pickett. He's also a good rebounder. Dorsey doesn't have much offense. Njie might be good in a year or two.

Freshman big man will add some size to the lineup as he gets acclimated to the college game....

Up 33-26 at the half…would be a more comfortable lead if Pickett could make a shot. He’s ice cold, but he has 9 rebounds and 7 assists.

Pickett is only 2-10 from the field but he has 9 rebounds and 7 assists. He's carrying this team.

I'm surprised Njie isn't getting more time. He's young and raw but PSU is in desperate need of a big player inside. He needs to grow up fast.

Obviously this team will live and die by the 3. Njie’s development will be critical to the team as they desperately need his size. They have some holes, for sure, but they’ll pull off a big upset here and there simply by shooting the lights out. Add a 6’10” Booth next year and we’re on the way!

WE ARE!!!

All of Dread, Funk, Pickett, Lundy and Wynter are listed as Seniors and compose about all of the great 3 point shooting the team will have this season.

Anyone know if any of them have another year of eligibility and can come back for 2023/24?

Butler has tied it up at 38-38. Not going to win many games if Pickett can’t score…he’s 2-14 from the field.

Lead is gone. Butler is dominating in the paint. Interior defense is really poor.

Pickett can't get one to drop. Nobody else can create offense.

Funk saved PSU with a couple of 3s while Pickett was sitting. PSU needs more out of Lundy.

Pickett needs one rebound to be only the second player in program history to have a triple double.

Bates was 8-12 vs Dorsey & Njie in the paint. The BiG has stronger big men than Bates. Defending and scoring in the paint is going to be difficult for PSU this year. Amazingly Pickett is our best inside scorer.

One good thing is that PSU guards (incl Lundy) are doing a good job team rebounding.

They will have to play some zone and double team more in conference to combat the post issues. The last 3 minutes should have been Pickett in the post to get fouled or kick out. I know they run a ball screen flare and space stuff all game but should go to the block with PIckett in crunch time

Not questioning your opinion, but what BIG big men do you think are much better than Bates? I know there were a bunch last year, but I thought that a few moved on.

Bates was a highly rated player who I thought that I heard has struggled with shoulder injuries. Thus when healthy, I think he seemed pretty good.

I agree that PSU will likely struggle against any above average players in the paint.

Dickinson - MICH
Eddy - PUR
Omoruyi - RUT
Trayce Jackson - IND

There are also some very good power forwards who can score in the paint.

Until Butler started committing intentional fouls PSU only shot two FTs for the game (Pickett). PSU simply lacks a presence in the paint. Don't get me wrong. Pickett is a top player and Wynter, Dread, Funk, etc are solid outside shooters. I think PSU has a pretty good team that should make the NIT this year. If we had a guy like Harrar we would probably be NCAA bound. But we don't and that's going to cost us against the top half of the BiG. JMO

P.S. Njie is a raw talent but I think he's going to make a significant impact by the time he's a junior.

Thursday's game against Furman is on ESPNU at 11:30am.

I'm surprised that ESPN gives Furman a 42% chance to win. Apparently they are favored to win the SOCON conference.

We lack an inside game, but our guards will be a match up problem for a lot of teams. How many point guards will be able to match up with Pickett taking them inside? We will lose some games when we’re cold, but we will win some when we’re hot. No sense complaining about things we don’t have.

I watched the game and I thought Bates was a very legit big man who would start for any B10 team. He is very physical and has a great baby hook shot. He hit about all of them until late in the game. If Bates played for PSU he would mean 4-6 more wins.

I can understand starting Dorsey and bringing the freshman Nijie along in a gradual manner. But Nijie is much more physical than Dorey and as he improves his defense will likely move to the starting lineup, especially against the more physical B10 teams.
