Mejia decommits from hawks

Please please please tell me you have a link. I missed it. Lol. If not how about a hint of what was said.
BUMP

It was hard to find. His original post is no longer available -- guessing he deleted his acct -- but was quoted by others, so I was able to grab the embedded quote (below).

NEPAwolverine-I’ve been involved with my son in the sport of wrestling since he was six-years old and I’ve met some great people along the way. My one ongoing regret in this sport has been dealing with forums that allow folks to post comments and remarks behind anonymous names. It is my respectful opinion that there would be much less bravado and far fewer negative, uninformed and challenging posts if we were all required to post by name. I try to stay off of these forums and have no respect for some of the negativity or glass half empty approaches taken by those that won't list their real names, but a friend just called me and told me to read your post. My name is Larry Lee and I am Spencer’s father and I do have firsthand information on this situation. NEPAwolverine, everything posted by KTI is 100% accurate, because the information was from me and yes, I was in the room each time we met with the doctors and physical therapists and yes, I live in the house, listen to the phone calls and read our mail that confirms the fact that people like you are far more concerned and have far more of a glass half empty approach than ANY of the coaches we are speaking with regarding his future wrestling career. So your guarantee is flawed and grossly inaccurate and I do know this to be a fact. If you would like to discuss this further, please post your name and contact information and I will call you directly. I would love to know who you are… If you don’t want to post your contact information on a public forum, please e-mail your contact information to one of the Young Gun coaches on their website and let them know that I asked you to pass along your contact information after reading several of your on-line anonymous posts and I will call you directly. Why speculate when you can have firsthand information? Not only are the coaches we’re speaking with not concerned and have told us so; several of our YG wrestlers that have taken trips to institutions that we have not visited or spoken with have have brought back comments from other coaches to pass along to Spencer such as: the labrum is the most common wrestling shoulder injury, or I had both of mine done, finished my college career and wrestled internationally for years without further issue…etc. So, sir, it is a fact, in this particular situation, that you don’t know what you're talking about when it comes to coaching perspectives on this particular injury, for this particular wrestler. I am offering a firsthand, knowledge based perspective rather than inaccurate and uninformed speculation. As an additional note, I’ve probably had 20 wrestlers or former wrestlers call, e-mail, or reach out to me through people I know and tell me other stories of quick recoveries without further issues. In fact, we have a young man in our club whose father told me a story this past Monday night that his son had multiple tears in his labrum because he wrestled with it for four months and finally had it looked at and the ortho told him that it was a serious tear…he had surgery on August 1 prior to his freshman season and made it back and wrestled in a little less than four-months and never had another issue and is now entering his senior year. I could go on, but the point is simply that each injury is different, each recovery period varied, but the one certainty is--as medical technology evolves, fortunately, it is more likely than ever before that these young men can return and have a full unimpeded career.

It is not our intent to rush back from this or any injury, but we have been told and we fully expect Spencer to return this season. If we are told otherwise we will not, but from all indications, from those with firsthand knowledge of the injury, with a particular expertise in this specific field of medicine, that he will return this season and he will be fine just as so many others have done before him with similar or far worse labrum issues. If you have any further questions or if you want to continue this dialogue, we can chat person-to-person vs. on an on-line forum.

Back to Mejia ... found this nugget interesting. Might not matter in the end, but still interesting:

Many California wrestling fans across the country wondered if the reestablishment of Fresno State and the addition of three former high school teammates (Kristian Olivas, Isaiah and Josh Hokit) to the squad influenced Mejia’s decision to leave Iowa. We know that this is not the case. According to Justin’s dad, Tom, “Fresno State has not approached (Justin) to compete for them.”

It will give ya something to jump up and down about for a few days atleast

Na, I am actually bummed. I don't really care for it, when a kid decommits from ANY program, it's just like a balloon popped, not good for anyone. Hope things all work out, but the whole process of the decommitting, in general is a bummer.

It was inevitable that there would be recruiting fallout from the recent Lee/Teasdale signings at Iowa. I think we were all waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I disagree. I think it could be good for the one person that's most important in all this..... The athlete.

Flo article here provides both Renteria and Mejia's lists, the latter which seems like a work in progress.

Renteria:
“This time he will take his time with the process,” said Jason about his son. “His top five schools are Illinois, Penn State, UNC, Nebraska and Missouri. We will take our visits to those schools and make our decision after that.”

Mejia:
“I’m pretty laid back about everything right now. I’m not really in a hurry to make my decision,” said Mejia. “Everything just happened so I’m not even really thinking about what I’m going to do next. The only two schools I will say I’m talking to right now is Illinois and Minnesota.”

I hope they both go to Illinois. Not even sure why I feel that way. Maybe because I live in the Quad Cities now.

The good news is that Teasdale will likely not redshirt. I'm sure Iowa wishes he wasn't redshirted in junior high.

Regardless of how things in Minnesota shake out, I can't imagine there's anyone there who can assure a recruit that they'll definitely be around next year, so it's odd that Mejia offered them up.

it's become apparent that Iowa will have very little chance in 17-18. Really hope they don't do the smart thing by redshirting Lee.

Jammen will definitely be around next year. That should be assuring.

Maybe, just maybe there are people there who can assure a recruit that they'll definitely be there.

if by '49lber' you mean, literally, 49lbs and not 149 - then maybe

Willie,

Enjoyed the last FRL episode , hear anything about Michael Beard and a certain school in central PA? Thanks, i'd think this would impact the Chase for Singletary pun intended!

Not sure if you saw jschrantz, but some of our insiders are quite bullish on Beard.

Lots of revisionist history going on today, lol. That's not what you said in the PArocks thread. You agreed with Az and said they "wouldn't run from competition" and that it would be sorted out in the Iowa room. I thought it was an odd response at the time considering I was talking about scholarship allocation, not running from competition, but either way you certainly didn't feel it was "inevitable" then.

The staff is not pursuing Singletary. He needs a full-ride scholarship and that is not happening at University Park.

Secondly, unless they come for free the staff is not interested in Renteria or Mejia.
