Men's ice hockey #1 in Pairwise

Re: basketball, I wish they could do something about the BJC. It always seems like a morgue in there on TV. First fix would to relocate the cameras to the other side, so at least the student section would be on TV. Maybe they could just play all the non conference games in Rec Hall. I like the direction the team is going but it must be hard to recruit when our venue is so dead for many of the games.

The hockey arena is simply the best hockey venue in all of college sports and the student section gets on TV all the time. What a difference. Anyway Kudos to Coach Gadowski for assembling this exciting team with 10 new players this year. I can't wait to go see them against Princeton at the Wells Fargo Arena in January.

When I was a student I would regulary go to the bball games as often as my own schedule allowed. The atmosphere was great back in the late 90s. We were OK back then as well. It is a shame over the years we have not been able to build at least an average program.

They tried that for a couple of years - it didn't make any difference. Half the time the students aren't there either.

Why did they ditch the Winter Classic in Pittsburgh? I loved going to that the last 2 years, despite coming away with an 0-2 record to Bobby Mo.

IMHO , Penn State needs at least 14 conference wins to be BIG champs.. We also need to win the tourney
to get to the NCAAs

In theory if PSU wins 14 conference games (already have 2), they finish 26- 7 - 1, only 1 non conference game against Princeton left on the schedule. That record should get them into the tournament. The concern comes in the fact that this team hasn't played on the road much only 3 games away from Pegula and one of those was a neutral site game. We did beat ND on the round once and tie them in the other game. But going to Minnesota, Michigan and OSU is going to be tough. Hopefully they can be the same team on the road that they have been at home. This team is playing great and I hope the Christmas break doesn't mess with ther confidence and momentum that they have going for them.

Lots of basketball teams share an arena with the hockey team...maybe PSU basketball will decide that Pegula is a nicer venue and easier to sell out and create a hostile environment?

All money and energy needs to be diverted from BB to hockey. Shut the BB program down.

That's essentially what's happening now. PSU will never have sustained success in men's bball while running it out of the BJC.

There were some big crowds back in the Talor Battle / NIT days. Lots of buses going to NYC. I think it's about winning. People aren't excited to watch a B1G team that struggles against teams like Albany & George Mason.

Yeah, but these are exciting times. They're just young, but the program is turning the corner. Lots of talent there. They just need some time to put it all together.

I know. You've never heard that before.

Oh, this thread is about hockey.

We'll see. The recent recruiting class should help in another year or two but they're sure off to a lousy start. I'm disappointed that PSU lost Joe Hampton. Perhaps he wasn't good enough but this squad really needs a bigger body in the lineup.

Don't need to win BIG to get in. Not a lot of dominate teams in college hockey this year. BIG looks weak again and Penn St's OOC is not great. But looks like ND and St. Lawrence can help in PWR. If Penn St has a good win %, they can certainly stay in at-large range, but BIG could be one bid league again.
