The money was awarded to one of his clients, Alexis Gardner, to settle her suit against her ex boyfriend, NBA-player Hassan Whiteside. Instead of turning over the money, Avenatti allegedly blew the money on a private jet, the New York Postreported.
Whiteside wire transferred $2.75 million of the $3 million settlement to Avenatti. Although Avenatti was entitled to $1 million of the settlement, he never handed off the remaining amount, the Los Angeles Timesreported. Avenatti allegedly took $2.5 million and bought a private jet.
