Michigan fan, making first trip to PSU w/ 3 teenagers. Hoping

If you have 3 teens, park in town, but make sure you rent one of these for yourself ahead of time.

I go to 8-10 UM games per year. Been about everywhere besides PSU. Near, far, top ten UM team or below .500

Life is short, not sure why my prediction should affect my decision to do something that I think will be a great time regardless of the games outcome. But that's just me. We all view life and how to spend time differently. Thanks.

I have one B10 stadium left, and I will go next time PSU plays there regardless of the weather or our records. So I can completely understand what you are saying. Have fun, you saved the best for last!

Great. I love parking garage idea near campus as we want to spend most of our time there pregame. Hope we can get a spot. Thanks.
Early is better. I suggest the Waffle Shop (on campus and on N. Atherton) for breakfast--there's usually a long line, but it moves pretty fast. Two different owners (was once a family operation), but the food is good at both.

OK. You shouldn't have too much trouble traveling east on I-80 in PA. Google maps will route you to get off around Clearfield and onto Rte 322 through Philipsburg. On game days, this is a bad idea. Best thing to do is to keep going on I-80 until you reach the Bellefonte/I-99 exit and then go right into State College/University Park/Beaver Stadium.

Note that traffic after night games is a nightmare. It will take you at least 45 minutes to get out of traffic and back onto I-80.
Took us 3-4 h after the 2005 tOSU game. Was after 3 am before we got out. We spent more time trying to get out than we did at the game. But that was an outlier. I still believe we got sent to a cr*ppy spot because my car has Ohio plates. It was a spot behind the flower gardens that I didn't even know existed.

Concur. You never know what kind of a game you will get. We went to Tuscaloosa a number of years back. We got crushed, but except for the extreme heat while we were tailgating, we had a great time experiencing Bama and their culture. Ditto when we went to UVa during the sanctions. And I would have said the same thing had we lost to Iowa a couple of weeks ago. Most of my PSU football going forward will be away games, actually. Still have a lot of the conference to see.

I have Rutgers Stadium and the new MinnyHaHa stadium to visit. Been to the Maryland Stadium during a PSU by week and the Terps played Iowa. They won, but it's not the same kind of environment.

If you get in early enough, you can park on Locust Avenue, which is free - you just have to be there early enough to get a space. Locust is right off University Drive, and it's about a 10 minute walk to get to the stadium. It's also close to downtown, so that you can park, hit up some places to eat/drink and then walk to the stadium.

The other advantage to parking on Locust as opposed to the stadium, is that you won't be stuck trying to get out after the game - it can take well over 1 - 1 1/2 hours if the game is close and the crowd sticks around.

Hope you enjoy everything except the game. ;)
I looked at the location you mentioned to park. Is it street parking or is there a lot? I google mapped it and could not tell exactly where the parking is.

Thanks!

I only count it if I see PSU play there. Thankfully I am not looking to see a PSU win at every stadium, because I was at Michigan in 2005, and the only game PSU ever lost to Indiana.

Rutgers is of course a dump, in the worst state in America to boot. So there are no positives about going there. I did enjoy walking back to campus in a crowd of dejected students after they lost their first ever B10 game.

Minnesota, I just remember being cold. But it was a decent experience, other than the loss.

Having lived in NJ most of my life, and having been to 42 of the 50 states, I would say New Brunswick/Piscataway are no worse than a lot of other places. But that is a discussion for a different day and time.

As of this summer, I've been to all 50 states. IMO, there is no state I loathe going to more than NJ. Michigan is a close second, but they at least have some really great breweries.

I doubt it had anything to do with your plates. It took our group 3 hours to get out of that mess as well in 2005, it was a logistical disaster.

Do not skip going to the Berkey Creamery for ice cream. IMO, it is the best ice cream on the entire planet. Of course, there will likely be a long line. Just bear with it. It will be worth the wait. "Death by Chocolate" is one of my favorites. You can view the flavors on-line: http://creamery.psu.edu/

Creamery Hack: If you don't want to wait in line for a cone/dish, you can walk right in and buy a pint from the freezer. No wait

I'll second this. Peachy Paterno is amazing.

Well, we were going into the back lots via Fox Hollow Rd--per our usual game plan--and rather early too--yet we were diverted before the National Guard Building. I've never seen that diversion before or after (and we went to other big games and night games before and after) and we were put in a lot that's I'd never seen before or since. That's about the only thing I could make of it.

There was, of course, the time we were coming in that way and they took us around the back side past the lots we usually parked in and then across Park Ave. That made no sense at all but was the first game of the season. Ghostbusters taught us to never cross the streams....;);)

The worst getting in was the first time we played Michigan (before we learned to use Fox Hollow)--Atherton and Park backed up and did not move for a couple hours--we were finally parked at the Nittany Lion Inn and missed most of the first half. And they kept saying on the radio to just wait in line and you would get in...

In my experience I've found it's prudent not to jump to conclusions, especially when you have a sample size of one.

Most probably don't care but sharing an update of my experience over the weekend.

Parking worked out great. Thanks for the advice.
More importantly as I was told to expect, the fans everywhere were awesome to me and my group. On college avenue, in the restaurants, the apparel stores, walking all over campus, the creamery, walking to the game, and while in the game.

I have been about everywhere and never have I been treated as well from top to bottom for an entire day wearing my UM gear. Not even a close comparison.

I believe UM fans are decent in comparison to most Big Ten schools but see more people behaving like idiots toward road fans each weekend in Ann Arbor than I saw in about 10 hours on your campus Saturday.

Good luck the rest of the way. I am not a big fan of Franklin because of his likely very big mistake at Vanderbilt but your school, campus, traditions, sportsmanship, etc. is top notch. Beat Ohio and Bama and you will be a deserving champ.

Forgot to mention. My 27-0 prediction was a bit off but not my margin of victory for PSU. I would have been even closer if Nordin did not miss that XP.

Hmmmm.... "Very big mistake at Vanderbuilt?" Care to enlighten? I have literally no idea what you're talking about.

Good to hear you didn't have any problems. Everyone here would have expected nothing else unless you ran into some drunk idiots. You can find some of those no matter where you go.

Likely big mistake at Vanderbilt? Go on. This should be good.

Oh God, that is what you took from his post?

The U-M fan should not have said anything. But sometimes you also just need to let dumb comments go.

I know what he's referring to but I chose to ignore it. It's another case of someone claiming moral superiority when they don't know what they're talking about. They love to be OUTRAGED!!!

I do too. Total bullshit.

Well, first, it kinda stuck out after all the nice things he had to say. And secondly, I'd like to know what it is before I decide whether or not to "let [it] go."

Anyway, you're still bitter about the beat-down, huh?

Speaking of letting dumb comments (dumb questions) go .............. I'll do the same.

I'm planning to be at Larimer Beer Hall in Downtown Denver at 1:30 on Saturday, FWIW.

Be sure to wear your UM hat so fish knows who to pour a beer over!

Ok so nobody knows what he's talking about. Odd comment - I'm really curious though about what he supposedly knows that we don't - to drop after two paragraphs of glowing things to say.
Many of us know what he's talking about but he hasn't returned to give us the "facts" as he thinks he knows them.
