Sounds more like wishful thinking on Vukovcan's part. I highly doubt he has any inside info. But if he does have inside info., Pitt fans can breathe easy; he said it could involve BIG BIG Nike schools, so that means Pitt is in the clear.

He's really just regurgitating what was repeated about a thousand times when the hoops story broke and every blowhard with a microphone or Twitter account was speculating.
Is it likely the FBI is looking at the shoe companies closer in all sports? Sure...I doubt that would be earth shattering news. I just don't see the business model of how this was pulled off in hoops translating to football with a whole heck of a lot of success.

I will say that Carl Depasqua was a neighbor of mine. John (PSU Letterman) and I grew up together for a few years. Carl was a good man - which didn't go far at Pitt obviously. Smart sending John to play for Joe as well.

Football doesn't make as much sense as basketball for this type of scandal. Basketball stars are more easily identifiable at a pre college age. There are fewer to target and, they only have to spend one year in school until you can cash in on your investment. Football seems to have more of a problem with college football obsessed wealthy boosters who spend money so their team can win.
Years ago I read that by the time a kid graduates high school the "experts" know if he is NBA material or not. College does not help him get better as an individual player, although college teams are always on the look out for players with extreme talent.
It's well known that Poopyscoop Warner and Joke Southerland paid players, got them anything they wanted and used pros on their off days to win at Pitt. Pitt is one of the biggest commodes around next to the shenanigans of Tootthe root Rockne and his shams. Maybe I missed something but so far the basketball schools in trouble as far as apparrel companies are Addidas schools. So saying Nike is involved in either sport is way premature.

So it is two different issues but so far Nike isnt involved. Of course I may have missed the latest.

It's always been a house of cards designed so a privileged and shameless few (Emmert and the crew) can make millions annually and selectively reward and lord over scholarship atheletes. It's not about education, or teamwork, or anything altruistic; greed at the top like basically every institution in human history.
Plus, with basketball, you can make the big dance and have a good run with 2-3 top players. In football, you need a roster that averages 4 star talent at every position to make a run at the playoffs.
