Mindhunter season 2

I thought it was pretty good and well worth watching. This season was based on the Wayne Williams murders in Atlanta and sets the stage for season 3 with the BTK killer in Kansas City.

I've interpreted the BTK portions to sort of give insight on how the characters are developing their strategy/tools. If the series is based on the book, my guess would be that they'll focus on Robert Hansen next season.

I haven’t watched yet but at least some of the hotel scenes were filmed at the club house at my golf club in Pittsburgh. Filming took place last year and they had the “lobby” set up in our Living Room. One day I was walking through after golf and there were magazines on the end tables near the chairs so I took a look. The magazines were all from the era. Thought that was neat. They were all over WPA for both seasons. The agent’s home is in Mt Lebanon, last year’s courthouse scenes were the Armstrong County courthouse in Kittanning, and the California police station was the former McKeesport Daily News building. Looking forward to seeing the this season’s show.

How about Bill Trench's son Brian? There is talk Mindhunter will run for five seasons and Brian may go down a pretty bad path. I dont want to say to much and spoil things.

Gacy, Bundy, Dahmer, and Hansen are mentioned as killers to be profiled in the upcoming seasons. Would like to see Anna Torv be more involved in cases than focusing on her personal life. I assume that will be the case in the future.

Finally getting into it. Watched season 1, ep 1 in 2 parts over a few weeks because it was dragging. I don’t care to see all the girlfriend stuff right off the bat.
Then they got to Kemper. Now we’re talking

This specific storyline is gut wrenching. Those scenes are so well done that it makes me uncomfortable watching it unfold.

I’m dying (wrong word?) to start this series. The wife can’t even bear the preview on Netflix.

It’s 2019, must crowbar in the lesbian angle- and Bill Trench will probably be a tranny by season 4..

Really though, great show

HAHAHAH, yeah, it makes me roll my eyes too. I suppose it's for character development. Holden had a girlfriend that was a fixture of the show season 1, I suppose I should keep an open mind to exploring Wendy as a character. I just question the relevance of her being a lesbian to the show.

I'm through episode 4 of this season. Enjoyed season 1 more so far. I feel like this season is spending too much time focused on their personal lives instead of the cases and it's just not as interesting.

Honestly, it serves absolutely zero purpose, it’s nothing more than “look how open minded we are,” which would offend me if I were gay.

It’s the equivalent of the company annual report which usually has a guy in a wheelchair somewhere in the picture pointing at blue prints or something with a Rainbow Coalition of other employees

I'd be willing to wager it sets up season three. The focus was on Holden Ford in season one and Bill Trench in season three. Wendy Carr would be the logical move for next season and, given the FBI history with the gay community, it could be a compelling story line.

It adds nothing to the story and takes away from content when 8-10 episodes comprise an entire season. It literally has nothing to do with her role in the story.

Jonathon Groff who plays Holden Ford is from Ephrata. He is gay. He's supposed to be well known in the Lancaster area and a good guy.

I get so tired of these shows having to input their little social justice crusades into shows, but that being said, I did not think it was entirely superfluous or pointless to develop Wendy as a character more than they had. Remember, Holden had a serious girlfriend in season 1 and nobody shouted about how irrelevant it was. They also went into deeper development on Bill this season. I thought a lot of Wendy's relationship was totally pointless, but you do learn about her through the relationship. Mindhunter is the best show I have seen in some time, I'd put it right up there with Breaking Bad.

You do realize that, at the time, the FBI considered homosexuality to be deviant, don't you?

Think back to the early episodes when Holden was first getting sexually involved with his girlfriend Debbie. They were performing sexual acts that, according to the FBI, were also deviant. Not long after, we see Holden modifying the FBI's list of deviant sex terms eliminating those which are descriptive of the things that he and his girlfriend are doing. That foreshadows the complexity that we are bound to see in season three in which Wendy Carr will undoubtedly be the focus. Changing the FBI's view that homosexuality is deviant will be orders of magnitude more complex than deleting some terms on a list. Also, if the FBI were to find out that Wendy is gay, the consequences to her would be infinitely more serious than they would be to Holden if they found out that he was going down on his girlfriend.

Her sexuality has plenty to do with the overall story, it just hasn't come to the forefront yet.

Love the show. I thought Agent Ford's girlfriend was an interesting character. I hope she comes back into the show.

Just watched the Season 2 episode (Episode 5 or 6) when they interview Manson. Don't want to give it away, but I thought it did not ring true, particularly Agent Tench's comportment.

Yes, manson seemed forced....big time.

Manson was forced because they only had 9 episodes for the entire season and between so much time being dedicated to the Atlanta child murders (which was fine) and the ridiculous time spent on a lesbian relationship that (sorry UncleLar) has nothing to do with the story, that's what you get.

Manson should not have been forced like it was, it was literally an aside to the show. Crazy.

I think we have a fundamental disagreement on wanting more real content vs. wanting more drama/story. I am interested in the actual crime work and not the side stories, especially when the number of episodes is at such a premium. Disagree? We'll agree to disagree then.

OK,rmem: I'll volunteer as devil's advocate on your last point, even though I am a bit apathetic on the issue. The lesbian angle ties in, IMHO, with the whole notion that the Behaviorial Sciences Unit is investigating and studying sexual deviance. According to the standards of that time (late '70's), it was clear that homosexuality was regarded as deviant. Hell, I thought it funny as hell that fellatio and cunnilingus were regarded as deviant, and that they riffed on it in the context of Holden and Debbie's relationship. How times have changed.

So my point would be that the personal lives of the protagonists intertwined to some extent with the subject matter of their jobs. Consider also the clear parallel between poor Brian Tench and the story of that dude (Henley?) who killed his mentor (Copri?) after having watched him abuse and kill a number of young boys.

Precisely, the show is so nuanced

Yep. He does the voice of Kristoff in the Frozen movies as well. Wikipedia has his hometown as Ronks, be either way he is from around Lancaster somewhere. Always nice to see a local guy or gal do well for themselves.
