Moore goes down AGAIN!

Moore is definitely off. McKenna is looking quite good, that's a solid win over Jack. Curious to see how he fares against Lee if they get a rematch at B1G's

It appeared to me that McKenna backed-up the entire match with the exception of the few times he attempted takedowns.

No doubt that McKenna had the tripod stance working big time. However, to be fair, he was the more aggressive wrestler early and got 2 TDs compared to Jack who did, well, Jack.

Taken down twice in last 25 secs was the main issue.... #gastank

I thought the late stalling call against Moore was pretty weak. But, yeah, didn't impact the real issue, which was Moore gassing. Left himself wide open for those two late TDs.

tOSU might have some problems if Moore can't hold 197. Don't they have Singletary coming in next year at heavy? If Moore moves up that would be a lot of talent riding the bench with whoever doesn't win the spot and a hole at 197.

Friday at NCAA's always is interesting for the big weight cutters.
I have read this before (and I think asked the question but forgot the answer). Why is Friday (and in particular Friday night?) a weight cutting issue as compared to normal duals?

Some others may "weigh in" (pun intended) on this, but at NCAA's, if you medal, you have to weigh in 3 days in a row. I think you get 1 lb on Friday and another lb on Sat (others can correct me on that). But, when you wrestle Friday, you've been keeping your weight down for 2 days, and you have to keep it down again for Saturday. Once you get to Saturday, you weigh in in the morning, and if you're in the finals, you can balloon up during the day before the finals. Some can weigh 15 lbs or so more by the time they wrestle in the finals. That can really help a guy cutting a lot of weight. He can't do that on Friday!

Re-reading your post, I see your question was especially in comparison to a dual. In duals you have a 1-hr weigh-in which is not a lot dissimilar to what you have to do on Friday--except that you've had to keep your weight down in essence for 3 days (preparing for Sat), and that's tougher than just dehydrating to get down for a one day's dual.

Yes. Though that "hole" at 197 would be filled by Gavin Hoffman.

But other than gassing, do we have any evidence that Moore is struggling with the scales?

Thanks... followon... so on a Friday/Sunday 'normal' weekend during the dual meet season... do wrestlers typically go "back up" on Saturday? I would have thought they would stay "at weight" all weekend. But I never wrestled so have no clue.

It's a combination of the consecutive-day weigh-ins, and the number of bouts. Day 2 has a 1 pound allowance, but by Friday Night, kids in the championship bracket will have wrestled 4 bouts in two days, giving those that cut less weight an advantage (most think), as the wrestlers don't have enough time to recover. If a wrestler drops to wrestle-backs, they get two matches for each round in championships, so losing in Rd 2 or Rd 3, for example, and they'll have to wrestle even more bouts...with even less time to recover.

On one of their recent shows, Ben Askren and Tommy Rowlands were in agreement that Friday morning quarterfinals is the most difficult match at nationals for the big weight cutters. Wish they would elaborated on that because I was also under the impression Friday night was considered the most difficult.

Friday morning has to be tough since you have had to hold your weight, you weigh in and then you replenish but you still have to worry about tomorrow.
The reason we as fans argue that it would be better for Mark to wrestle Z Valencia on Friday night versus Saturday night is we assume Valencia is cutting a ton of weight so on Friday night and still needing to make weight Saturday they are close to the same size. Saturday night Valencia is wrestling a 175 Mark Hall weighing 190 pounds. Big advantage.

If Tomasello were to make the finals, he’ll weigh 152 when he walks on that mat. I think BoJo was an even 200 when Hall beat him last year.

I'm just curious as to where you got these numbers? If Nato is walking around that heavy I don't see how he could be certified at 125 while passing a hydration test. I agree that most of tOSU's kids are huge for their weight classes and probably suck a ton of weight, but almost 30lbs. for a 25er? I don't know, I don't see it, that would mean he's taking out about 25lbs. of water out of his body before he hits the scale an hour before he has to compete.

25lbs = 3 gallons of water. That's a lot of sweat and spit, even for J'Den Cox.

Other than cheating the test, I don't see how you're passing hydration, either. You're probably closer to peeing actual apple butter at that point, than passing the test.

Maybe just maybe those numbers were exaggerations?
I’m sorry guys, I didn’t know how to add a winky emoji. It absolutely was meant as hyperbole. The numbers I cited were off the cuff. But yes, in both the cases I referenced, the wrestlers in question would wrestle that finals match well above the number that showed up on the scale at weigh ins. Sorry for the confusion.

Not touching it. Not touching it. Not touching it.
