But what will be the ‘price discovery’ once 30% of the parts are sourced domestically, thereby avoiding the 25% tariff? Could it be halved to $900. Perhaps $600. Could it be cheaper?? Who’s to say unless we try it. But know this. Once those parts are made domestically and production is ‘ramped up’ economies-of-scale drive down per unit cost. It doesn’t take a pencil neck sitting in an ivory tower to figure that out. Not to mention the multiplier effect manufacturing jobs have on the economy. Some estimates put it as high as 31…
“All is not sweetness and light on the manufacturing front. Nosbusch and Bernaden report that while the U.S. produces 20 percent of the world’ manufactured goods, and remains the world’s largest manufacturer, we rank only 13th among the top manufacturing countries in terms of exports. In other words, pound for pound, the Chinese and Germans are still running rings around us on the export front. That is a key reason why we need to convey the real significance of manufacturing jobs to legislators and policy makers.
Boston Consulting expects up to 800,000 manufacturing jobs to be added in the U.S. by mid-decade, and estimates that a 4x multiplier means they will create another 2.4 million jobs. If Nosbusch and Bernaden are right, and I believe they are on to something, the total employment impact will be much greater. “

Now you know why Germany, Japan and other export-driven countries are screaming like a stuck pig over Trump’s tariff threats. Think about it. 2.4 million fewer people on the government dole. Increases to tax revenue. What’s not to like? To make an analogy, when you go into a car dealership you haggle over price. You don’t pay full sticker. Yes? Heck, perhaps you’ll opt for an Impala instead of Camry because it’s less ‘globally sourced’. Point being, we’ll never know until we counter the tariffs foreign countries impose, and effectively stop being their bitch.
Price discovery. Try it. You may like it. I thank you and have a blessed day!
