Okay, here's the deal.
How rich of Macron to tell us Americans, for the umpteenth time BTW, what we're about. Especially when we're footing the lion's share of the bill for NATO.
Second, Macron pines for a European army when France doesn't pony up for its share of NATO. How's he going to fund it?!
Third, some of Macron's remonstrations are directed at his opposition namely, Marine LaPenn. But nary a mention of that by the LA Times. Wake me up, I must be dreaming!
Fourth, among the heads of state in attendance is an authoritarian sitting right there in the front row. His name is Putin. He's guilty of pursuing nationalistic interests more than Trump could ever dream of, to include poisoning dissidents on foreign soil. And yet the media gives Putin a pass. Go figure!
Lastly, anyone who's ever met a Frenchman knows they're prideful to the point of arrogance about their culture. They've an overinflated sense of their place on the world stage. Why French is even spoken during the Olympic games is a head-scratcher. Point being, show me a Frenchman who's not a nationalist. The very idea Macron is complaining about our nationalism is laughable in its conception! Furthermore, you should expect a president to put American interests first. If you don't then you need to renounce your citizenship and emigrate.
In closing this whole episode bespeaks of French cowardice. Trump would've done well to stay home for the way they disrespect America. Before leaving I would tell Macron the next time France imposes an onerous peace treaty upon the vanquished, such as the 1918 Armistice on Germany, they're on their own when it blows back on them. I could care less what the world thinks. France needs a dose of Marine La Penn...
