Rep. Patrick Meehan, Republican congressman from Pennsylvania, reportedly used "thousands of dollars from his congressional office fund" to settle the sexual harassment complaint an ex-aide filed against him last summer with the congressional Office of Compliance. The complaint stemmed from Meehan's hostility toward the unnamed former aide, who reportedly rejected Meehan's romantic overtures.
This has prompted Speaker Paul Ryan to call for an ethics investigation of Meehan, and Meehan's repayment of any taxpayer monies used to settle the complaint in question. Meehan denies that he sexually harassed the former aide, and has asked that the confidentiality agreement (surprise) that attended the settlement of the complaint be dissolved "to ensure a full and open airing of all the facts." He did not respond to questions about whether he used taxpayer money to settle the complaint.
