Morgan McIntosh is registered for the Bill Farrell

I guess that is Marinelli even though the box in the lower left corner says it’s someone else.

And then the steam goes down.

Amine had to work for that win vs Ukraine--5-0. Would have enjoyed a chance to see Morgan wrestle him, but I'm mostly just happy Morgan is competing.

Winner of Dudley and Archaia of Ukraine on A/1 gets Morgan next.

Morgan is in the small 92Kg bracket after all. Has a first-round (quarterfinal) bye, and likely to get Dudley in the semi. Aeillo and Schultz on the other half.

If Ceron is able to win in the first round, will likely get Gwiz next in the quarters.
Bet he looks small too …

Dudley gets laced up, 1-12 so it's the Ukrainian for Morgan's first match in, how long?

Gwiz trailed for most of the match vs. Ukrainian Amishman Zakariiev, but had an excellent (and familiar) far ankle scramble to take the lead late, and gets another later.

It takes 3 years....
We'll see--I think Morgan has more experience in freestyle than you're giving him credit for. Not calling him a world champ any time soon, but I think he'll be competitive at a tourney like this.

I completely missed Ceron's match, but he won 11-0 in 1:36, and gets Gwiz next.

Well I think we can temper our enthusiasm a bit for a guy who hasn't wrestled competitively in 5ish years. This isn't quite the world championships which is the level I am really talking about, but even with his early career freestyle chops he likely has a long way to go. I would not put him near David, Zain or Nolf's level by any stretch, and look how long it took them to get there.

ADS Wins 10-0

Wow, Demetrius Thomas had it in the bag vs. Jordan Wood. Brain farts on an easy step-out up 6-2, Jordan gets the TD and Lace at the buzzer to win.

Desanto in an interesting match vs. Ukrainian Vaysenko. Lot's of saviness from Vaysenko, had him up 4-3 in the 2nd, but Austin looked to score several points late, after a long pause, all of which were waived off for to me, unknown reasons. Then Vaysenko scores. 6-3, And Austin gets a stepout and late TD, but loses on criterea. Ukraining celebrating like he won worlds.

65Kg Semifinal Nick Lee vs Pat Lugo
1
  • 2:00 Nick more active, but mostly tie-ups so far.
  • 1:53 passivity on Lugo
  • 1:25 Lugo on the clock
  • 0:55 1-0
  • 0:18 blood time on nick's forehead
  • End of 1st
2
  • 2:26 Nick scrambles at the edge and scores a step-out 2-0
  • 1:35 close on a swing single, but came up empty
  • 0:45 Nick holding center, but neither can penetrate eachother's head/hands.
  • 0:35 Lugo in deep but Nick scores on a crotch lift. 4-0
  • That's it. On to the finals!

Nick Lee on to the finals. Marinelli and DeSanto lose in semifinals.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

(Sorry for the shade on Alex and Austin; just not feeling the warm and fuzzies for anything Iowa right now.)

The on-screen clocks with names and scores on 2 of the 3 mats have pretty much been broken all round. Clocks were broke last round as well, is it too much to ask to have them working?

Messenbrink is impressing me more and more. He just lost a close 2-1 bout where he pushed the pace like crazy and just couldn’t find a td. His opponent though was Andreasyan from Armenia who was just 5th at the 2022 worlds where he lost 5-0 to Zain and 5-5 criteria to Iakobishvili. Very tough guy and Messenbrink was right there. I’m very interested to see how he does this year in folkstyle. His pace is definitely going to break a lot of guys that is for sure

Nick Lee’s finals opponent Taiyrbek is very good. He was just second at U23’s losing 7-5 to Haratunyun in the finals. He beat the USA rep Nagao 9-0 at U23’s. Should be a great test for Nick
