I've said here many times in the Lions Den this season that I'm totally convinced that Penn State has by far the No. 1 group of receivers in the Big Ten. It seems that there is no question four receivers will finish the season with 40 or more receptions. those four will be Saquon Barkley, DaeSean Hamilton, Juwan Johnson and Mike Gesicki.
Through seven games Barkley has 32 catches for 448 yards with three TD receptions, Hamilton has 28 catches for 481 yards with four TD receptions, Juwan Johnson has 27 catches for 333 yards with one TD reception and Mike Gesicki has 24 catches for 228 with four TD receptions, but that is expected from Coach Moorhead's West Coast pass offense.
What has even impressed me more about the performance of Penn State's WRs and TEs has been their downfield blocking with the running game. In my opinion it's been the most overlooked aspect of Penn State's offense during the Nittany Lions first seven games this season.
The perfect example of that was the downfield blocks by DeAndre Thompkins and Hamilton on Barkley's 15-yard touchdown run on Penn State's second offensive series in the first five minutes of the game against Michigan that gave Penn State a 14-0 lead over the Wolverines.
It just might be the most improved area on Penn State's offense in the first seven games games this season.
