Movies of no fame or note that you enjoy

Love Excalibur - just watched it again the other day. Amazing how it has stood up over time. Boorman was a genius (at least here anyway)
The documentaries I won't miss are Corbin's (Square Grouper, Cocaine Cowboys, etc.) as well as King of Kong - which is just amazing.
If I need to feel good, I pull Smokey and the Bandit off the dvr. It was panned, but we all love it. Just looking at the smile on Sally's face sometimes when she looks at Burt just says a lot imo. Hal Needham almost killed a bunch of people while making it, but he left his mark. I also watch S&TB II because a lot of it was filmed here in town and at Burt's ranch - even though it was horrible pap.
There was an animated film called American Pop that I haven't seen in a few years that was pretty good, and no one ever talks about it. Sort of a history of music in America through the first 80 years of the 20th century.

Saving Grace -- trust me on this one. The Pope accidentally gets locked out of the Vatican and makes his way to a country village that is all squalor and poverty. Giancarlo Giannini plays a priest and is excellent.

Spinal Tap -- I go to 11 and so should you. See my avatar.

Bolero -- Bo Derek. Let me repeat, Bo Derek. An otherwise forgetful movie, but Bo Derek.

I love baseball, so A League of Their Own, Eight Men Out, Field of Dreams, Bang the Drum Slowly, Moneyball, and Trouble with the Curve are all on my binge list.

The Horse Soldiers with John Wayne and Bill Holden. The opening song (below) is terrific.

I'm still mesmerized by this woman to this day. She has a great organization where she teaches the U.S. Constitution to kids. She's also a cattle rancher in Texas. She played a fine June Cleaver too! What's not to love? btw - you think Stallone was in shape for this movie? Sheesh...

Idiocracy. It actually might be of some note now but when it first came out it got almost no response. I read once that the movie studio that made it decided not to promote it so it went nowhere.

I don't even remember the name of the next one. It starred Ben Stiller. At the beginning, Ben Stiller got married. Then after he got married (on his honeymoon) he gradually realized he made a mistake in marrying the woman he married. Not only that, but he started fall in love with some other woman. By the end of the movie he had extracted himself from the marriage and ran off with the new woman he loved. Then, at the very end, a couple things happened that made him realize he had made another mistake by running off with this woman. Not that he made a mistake in leaving his wife, but that he not only made a mistake in marrying his wife but also in running off with the new woman.

Next one is, the one where the humans were fighting the insect race. Doogie Howser was in it and Denise Richards too. I think it was named Starship Troopers but I could be wrong.

The way Brave New World and 1984 predicted the 90s, Idiocracy has predicted today.

Three Kings is a great movie.

It’s an accurate portrayal of the ‘down range’ experience for many soldiers who went to Iraq. Lots of dorking around with nothing to do, news crews everywhere, etc.

The Great Race
Excalibur
John Carpenter's Vampires.
Heathers
Blue Velvet (although this might be pushing the boundary)?

Blue Velvet is too good/acclaimed IMO. Probably some on my list are too - ah well ;).

Only possibly little known because it’s from 1947 but ‘Life with Father’ was a movie that I really enjoy. William Powell and Irene Dunne play father and mother of a house full of children. Nice character development.

I’ll add The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman. I love a good musical and it’s about as family friendly as it gets. My daughter loves the big circus set pieces and all the songs. I believe the soundtrack tied Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band with 28 non consecutive weeks at #1 on the UK charts. Pretty remarkable.
