A story in the Lansing paper implies the university may have been less than forthcoming in the early comments regarding the alleged sexual assault case. Not sure how serious this is.

MSU has made almost no comments on this issue so I'm not sure how what little they have said could be considered misleading. I think all they have announced is that it's being investigated and that 3 players have been suspended pending the investigation. That's about it.

I would love to know what the alleged victims think about what appears to be foot dragging.

I would think the independent investigation has to do with the fact that the incident was kept pretty quiet until after NSD. That's going to be a hard one to explain. The incident itself is of course very serious, but 2 or 3 players getting involved in something like this is unfortunately something that can happen on any campus.
The names, while not official are some pretty high profile young players. Tragic all around.

Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon sure was quick with the penalties a few years ago. So was Delany. Let's have some consistency. Time for MSU to step back from sports for awhile and give some attention to the many victims of this tragic lack of institutional control. They need to be penalized so they don't have to think about winning for many years and can concentrate on the victims.
