Here’s my writeup of our Bowl Week. Now I have to wait until September. Ugh.

Here’s my writeup of our Bowl Week. Now I have to wait until September. Ugh.

Awesome write up. I am jealous and regret I didn't try to hook up with you there. As it turned out, my brother was supposed to fly into LA on the 1st, as I and my son did. But his Spirit airline flight from Charlotte got canceled with no explanation other than 'we just did it." he ended up arriving the morning of the game at 10am. We picked him up at the airport and took the shuttle back to the LAX Renaissance Hotel. As he went upstairs, I called an Uber and was shocked to see a $45 fair and jumped on it as I'd been seeing $120 earlier. He arrives in a Toyota Mirai. If you are not familiar, it is a car powered by Hydrogen. I believe there are only a few thousand alive. So, only in LA, and quite a treat to ride in such a car. Driver said that there was only one place to fill up but said it has over 600 mile range on a tank.

Anyway, the trip to the stadium was fairly uneventful except that I thought I forgot my phone in the Uber. I'll write that up because it is pretty danged funny. But the trip home was a complete mess. My brother is 74 and we had to walk about two miles, up the hill, in the rain. We couldn't get a signal and when we finally did, the cars couldn't get to us as many roads were closed or made one-way. Once we got a car on Uber, it took us a half hour to get to him after about a half dozen phone calls. Quite a mess and I can't believe the stadium doesn't have some kind of zone for it. I mean, even if you walked a mile or two, you'd be better off than the ambiguity caused by the situation.

Just to underscore, my 74-year-old brother got up a 4am EST, took a flight to LAX. I picked him up at the airport. We got to the stadium ~ 11am. We walked around, ate a bacon-wrapped hot dog, and went to the game. The game ended at 5:30 or so and we finally got a car at 8:45. We were back at the hotel at 9:30. So my brother walked several miles, and was up for 22 strait hours.

I knew they only sold the Mirai in CA but I never saw one in all my travels there. Cool experience.

We had a similarly long day last time. We did a day trip for 2017. And we had my 82 year old mother-in-law with us. 5:00 wake-up and back home at 3:00am. I hope I have that much energy at their age.

Obli, wow I can see how Uber would be a train wreck getting out of that stadium. Glad I am local and had my own car.

We left our house a little before noon was supposed to be an hour earlier but didn't go that way. Despite the later than planned departure, we were in the stadium at 1pm. Found a place easily a mile away to park for $20, literally ran with my son to the stadium from there just to do it and get there as fast as possible to soak up pre game. We stayed a long time after the game until the stadium workers were actually telling us we needed to leave. 15 minute walk back to the car and maybe a 5 min delay navigating closed roads to get out of Pasadena. Then a 45 minute smooth drive home. A hell of a great day whenever PSU has a BIG WIN like that in a major bowl especially the Rose Bowl!
