Curious about the wrestling background of the typical poster to this forum. All poll responses are anonymous. But public responses welcomed below!

The problem with anonymous responses is that there's no way to verify, and you know a bunch of jackals in here are going to falsely claim made-up accolades. Except JTS, of course, His wild claims are always true.

If folks want to lie on an anonymous poll for which no one can see their response and be impressed by their fake accolades… then… wow…

I was a solid wrestler in high school and explored wrestling at Clarion, Millersville, and U of Delaware, but all the weight cutting thru the years just turned me off (huge mistake cutting as much weight as I did). When I was at PSU in the '80's I never missed a match when the team was in the EWL. Won an IM championship at PSU in 86, and then just tuned out wrestling until about 2006. Never dreamed our team would reach the heights they have. What a blessing it has been! Thanks first for PSU joining the B10 and then Coach Cael coming here.

And here we go.

:p😁;)

My last match was when I was 38. Tore my left pectoral muscle and I was done. Foolish comeback. I hadn't wrestled in a match for 9 years.

I get to answer D2/D3, but the reality is that I wrestled in HS and was only 0.500 in my senior year, but I was contacted by the coach to wrestle at the D3 college where I applied early decision. When I got to school, the practice schedule and weight cutting got in the way of my new found favorite pastime of drinking 5 days a week, so I never went out for the team. Apparently, there were several others who did the same thing, and the program folded after my sophomore year. A couple guys who came to school expecting to wrestle resurrected the team themselves in my senior year, got a coach, and scheduled matches. I felt a little guilty so I agreed to go out for the team to make sure they had a full lineup for every match.

So I wrestled 1 year of D3. I lost every match, gave up at least one point for stalling in every match, but never got pinned. I consider that a win for me. LOL.

Won everything up to States my SR year. gagged in Hershey a bit 😡

In my defense I never actually got to wrestle my correct weight as my teammate and life long friend was same weight as me … and he went on to wrestle at psu

Was recruited by the likes of Drexel
And Bucknell. But ended up enjoying myself in state college

However I do regret not competing at all
In college

Wrestled in HS. My plan was to enlist in The Corps, and when my service was over, return home and continue wrestling in college. That was all cut short by a shrapnel wound to my shoulder. As an old fart now looking back, it was a blessing that I never wrestled again. I had a wife to support and a daughter to help raise and an education to pursue, not sure where wrestling would have fit in.

My daughter married a young man that wrestled in both HS and college and they had two sons that both wrestled in HS and college. I now have two great-grandsons that are towing the line in their local youth programs. I have wrestled and still wrestle vicariously thru all of them.

Life is good

I was a mediocre high school wrestler- went on to coach a couple of years at the JR high level and then head coach of a high school team for 7 years or so... I was a far better coach than a wrestler. I didn't work in the school, and balancing everything wasn't realistic as my career (the one the paid the bills) started moving along.

All of that a lifetime ago... with the advent of streaming, I had the opportunity to follow college wrestling that I never had exposure to previously--- it's a glorious time to be a fan...

Jr high. Was an ok athlete generally, but lost my taste for it because a guy in the room at comparable weight range ended up a 2x all American, and kinda had a mean streak.

I wrestled up through Jr. High. I was OK, didn't win most or all of them, but I was competitive against some future state and even a national champ (Rob Koll). I quit all sports (football, track and wrestling) after 9th or 10th grade because I simply preferred to hunt, fish and chase girls, but quitting wrestling is one of the few regrets that I've ever had in life. Not sure that I ever would have been a great wrestler, but I think I would have been pretty good at it and I certainly would have enjoyed the atmosphere.

My sons were both very good high school wrestlers in PA and one of them wrestled briefly in college (quit because he wanted a life outside of the wrestling room and he simply didn't have the time or energy to do good in school, do good in the wrestling room and have friends/girlfriends).

Most of the guys who I wrestled that were perceived to be pretty good had a bit of a mean streak.

I was a beast! It's true, I was Americas top prospect and every college coach in the country wanted me. I even had a social media presence that rivaled Bo Bassetts...

If you don't believe me, check MySpace. You'll see...
So Iowa lowballed you with NIL and you’ve been working on a revenge plan for years?

I wrestled from first grade through 8th grade, but had to stop due to a heart condition. Helped out with the youth program for a couple of years after that.
