NCAA announces that Wrestling take downs to be worth 3 points

Why? It's always been 2. What's the logic to change the rule?
Seems like they want to up the reward for being aggressive. Promote more "action", more shots. So that the wrestler that is aggressive, that gets take downs build a bigger lead and then forces the other wrestler to get aggressive to stay in the match. More scoring.

As an example, a wrestler won't be able to give up a takedown in the first period, get an escape before the end of the 1st period, then in the 2nd and 3rd periods get an escape and a rideout and get to sudden death. It will force the wrestler that gives up the first takedown to be more aggressive.

It’s to get wrestlers to be more aggressive, rather than stalling and just locking up like the Iowa kids do

And they guy who get the first to be potentially less aggressive. Cuts both ways.

I agree with most of the positive aspects of a 3 point takedown presented here. Unfortunately though, there will be some matches that are like our Border Security approach. Catch and release, catch and release, catch and release.

The rule definitely will hurt those who begin every match countering, but it also makes overcoming one of those guys even harder if they score a takedown on you first. Be interesting to see how coaches and wrestlers strategies are effected.

And you believe Cael's wrestlers will take that approach?

Not me.

Cael's PSU wrestlers go for points.
No, but if you are a wrestling fan (and watch matches that don’t always involve PSU as well), you will see both strategies.
