NCAA Championship sites announced...

Minnesota is gonna be dope. Very excited about the fact that I could go and not have to take much time off work, if at all.

St. Louis, New York City, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Detroit, 7-year run.

Maybe not far enough south for some, given the 3rd weekend of March is still winter, not sure there's much to complain about here from a distance standpoint.

Personally, I enjoy St. Louis, loved NYC, have close family in Pittsburgh (and really like the city), and believe Detroit will be a solid venue (lived outside the city a lifetime ago). That leaves Minneapolis as my least favorite destination (looks like a $$$'s decision).

If I have a regret, it's not for me, but my good friend G-BANGER...who was looking for a little warmth to go with some excellent wrestling.
Appreciate the sentiment my friend. Did want a warm venue but nothing is as bad as walking across parking lot 80 from East Halls back in the day.

Talked to a few people in regards to the Minneapolis bid on my Minnesota-based (state, not the school) podcast with The Guillotine

http://www.theguillotine.com/gg28

Talked with a Sr. Associate AD in charge of event management with UM, along with Eggum. Mack Reiter provided some pretty good insight into vantage point and things to do, while I had one of my buddy's dad's on at the end talking about the impact on the local fans of wrestling. His company is a big supporter/sponsor of The Clash.

So keep in mind this show is based for the Minnesota wrestling fan, but I had many of the same questions you did.

I live 13 minutes from U.S. Bank Stadium and everything I've heard about the configuration has been positive. And no, don't expect the mats to be dead center and the 66K to be open. We talked about that in the show.

Tried to get the outside traveler situation in the main parts of the show. Also, average temperature in Minneapolis the third weekend in March hovers around 44. It was warmer in Minnesota the first three days I was in St. Louis than it was in St. Louis this year.

Is it true that Minnesotans are generally passive/aggressive? In other words, smiling at you while devising ways to take you out. Any truth to this?

Haha, Sproul Hall was my home for several years, long before you were in East Halls ;). And yes, the Parking Lot 80 trek was awful...uphill both directions, always fighting knee deep snow, and I did it barefoot :).

Thanks Jason, will be sure to listen.

One plus I can easily imagine (for myself and other photographers) is not having to work within the thin margins resulting from the compromise between fixed seating and 8 mats. Maybe they could even extend the margin a bit to the space between the mats.

I was a sproul hall tenent. 9th floor! Lots of brutal walks back and forth across lot 80. Also got a few stories from late night goings on in that lot.....lots of fun.

4th floor Stuart for four years in the early 70's. Loved telling the new freshmen about the perils of Parking lot 80 in the winter. (I hear Stuart is the first dorm being renovated in East.)

Bummed it will be at US Bank. Xcel Center across the river is a great venue. The good news is that we can tailgate at my house in St. Paul. You're all invited!

that is correct. Stuart renovations are currently taking place. McKean and Pennypacker will be shut down and renovated at the end of this semester. All three will be ready for occupancy for the fall 2018 semester.

That's good info! I've also heard they do a lot of cooking with tater tots? What's the story there? What do they eat? How often with the tater tots?
Getting further info...It's called "Tater Tot Hot Dish".
Just prepping for 2020 - we have to be ready for this...!
And yes I just answered my own post which puts me squarely into the nerd/deranged lunatic/talks to himself category. Only saving grace is that it seems I'm in good company.

No way to prepare for the lutefisk jello salad.

I'm a Pinchot man, myself Roar. Many many treks from East to Hammond building and back.

Same...you must be an engineer...only reason to go to that old building...south-by-southwest, then north-by-northeast. What were we thinking?

Minneapolis has the feeling of trying to make an attendance splash or $$$$ for the NCAA. My thoughts is that Minny/NCAA/Coaches assoc better combine on their marketing efforts because I could see with the emergance of ESPN/ESPN3 that people stay home rather than take telescopes to the event. maybe it has a giant video board, but wrestling is about control and fans like to see the control before they yell twooooooooo....right? Hard to do that from the nosebleeds.

In my mind a swing and miss by not going somewhere warm. Wrestling for the wrestling fans but a family vacation for the ladies and kids that dont want to go to each session.

But getting Pittsburgh is a small coup for the good guys with the team they will see that year (only losing zain from the current squad)
Not saying this will happen but the Old Metrodome that USBank replaced held a final 4 basketball game in I think 1992. Attendance for that game was around 45000.

105 Sproul my friend, '85-'87. Worked the hole at Findlay dining too-worse than walking across 80 in a blizzard. Jim Martin was the man.

Ed, with that sign up date and only 5 posts since, you may indeed be honored as the champion of either "lurking" or "restraint", your pick.
There shall be an awards banquet for accomplishments such as these;)
