To clarify: that's for spring sports, does not mention winter sports.
why does this need to be decided so soon? is it for the small percentage of athletes that would be debating going pro vs staying in school? there shouldn't be anybody changing their academic plans based on another year of athletic eligibility until at least the end of the semester, right?

Exactly. We all have to deal with this on so many levels. Yes we feel sorry but there so many other potential tragedies that will be happening. This is the least of my concerns. Why give everyone another year and penalize those who are already in the system and will have to take another year, too? Not fair. But life isn’t fair! It is what it is. This is not a trophy for all world.
They just canceled sports and school out hear in WA. My son who is a senior just lost his chance to finally make state in tennis. Who knows what this means for graduation. This is really changing life as we know it. Interesting times

Same thing is happening in Cali. The last holdouts have been folding today.
The situation is terrible for everyone, but there is loss all around that is going to have to be accepted and lived with. Our junior high cancelled their 8th grade musical—lots of kids who won’t ever again have a chance to be in a show. High school seniors in many locations are losing their championships and spring sports as well (no Minnesota state basketball tournaments for example). Those kids are losing out, but they will have to deal with it. Anyone losing eligibility, competition, etc. has to be grateful if they don’t have to deal with the loss of something bigger. To try and “fix” this piece or that piece when the nation as a whole is losing out in one way or another doesn’t make sense to me. If you feel differently, I’m completely okay with your position, but that’s my feeling.
Well....the streak is intact without wiping away the year. No National Championship was held.
So we align him with Cenzo if he decides to cut, or Anthony if he wants to go 285!!
