NCAA votes to allow athletes to profit from likeness

So they actually didn't. This is important because people will think something is going to change. The NCAA started exploring the idea, but it will be consistent with "the NCAA model". Pretty much they are going to try and continue to screw over the athletes while making the public think they are changing anything.

I like the NCAAs approach all things considered now that California took the lid off of Pandora's box. Let's hope another six months of some smart people in a room with come up with something manageable. It will not be easy.

That said I have a hard time seeing how they will keep big Bob's local car dealership (an long-standing Football booster) from paying some kids $25,000 to stand in his commercials.

Intent - sharing in the benefit of your likeness once you have made the team, and become a starter, and become a marketable figure or at least your likeness was being used for others to make money, a la a video game.

Consequence - a huge new recruiting tool and legal soft money channel to 18 year olds to lure them to your school.

End result - nearly 100% bad on many levels

Does this change a coaches (TnT) approach to sit kids during big matches?

This is a solvable, but polarizing situation. A free-for-all, or chaos, is not the answer, nor are the current rules against student-athletes making some $$'s using their likeness.

I like the NCAA's approach, even if they were pushed into it. For fans, I'm sure many will take sides, arguments ensue, and unreasonable positions declared...and that's BEFORE any of the proposals/rule changes ;):).

NCAA and room full of smart people? Magical thinking?

Even if the NCAA somehow manages to rent enough outside consultants to fill a room full of smart people the single thing everybody can be certain of is no one in that room will ever discuss "what's best for the student-athletes".

To be fair, Goggles never said NCAA and smart people would be in the same room.
