Nebraska may cancel its spring football game over transfer concerns

This seems like a very weird overreaction. Especially since the spring game for Nebraska surely makes a good bit of money - plus encourages engagement in the off season - which can be used to invest in the program. Especially with the schools paying players directly (sorry, I mean "sharing the revenue created") on the horizon there is no reason to cut off sources of revenue.

This crap is completely out of control
The spring game at Nebraska probably means more to that fan base than a spring game means to any other program, so that’s a shame that this portal garbage is taking something away from them like that. There’s no doubt in my mind that this is going to spread to other schools just like the opting out of bowl games did after Christian McCaffrey did it.

It’s just getting harder and harder to be a fan; I just hope that the pendulum starts to swing back because this sport has almost no stability anymore; it’s popular despite itself, but that probably won’t last long if things don’t change.

Easy solution is one portal window in early January after the season concludes. This is becoming nuts.
Agree.... With respect to Ruhle's approach this could backfire over time, are you helping the young men become their best and have the best opportunity to succeed or are you hording them and hiding them? If I'm a player do I want a coach that keeps me under wraps for HIS benefit? Time will tell.

They really can’t prevent kids from transferring between semesters just like “regular” college kids can transfer. At most they can tinker with eligibility rules but even there I think the genie is out of the bottle.

Someone has to get control of the mess created by the transfer portal and NIL. I know it's here to stay, but how about some guiderails? Not certain I agree with Coach Rhule's decision on this, but some controls on timing of portal transfers would be welcome....for everyone.

But how do you legally tell kids there's restrictions preventing them from attending a college that is accepting them?
We all agree this is a mess...I just don't believe there's a fix.
