New consultant hired?

Every big program is going to be doing this both to get more expertise and to have the next guy already onboard for when they lose an assistant. It's driving a semi through an NCAA loophole- that's fine if you're a big, well funded program.

Yet another football staff member. Add another bidet to Lasch!

Wouldn't be surprised at all if he ends up as the full-time 10th assistant when that's made official - especially since he has a dedicated special teams background.

A lot of these consultants or analysts tend to be just gameplanning specialists who spend all of their time in the film room breaking down tape because they can't interact with the team - it's why Alabama has become a destination for offensive coordinators trying to rehabilitate their reputations or get a line on their resume before their next job. It's the way the game is going - if you can afford it. Fortunately, we can.

What does the consultant consult?
many times they do the job of the 'quality control' coach in the NFL, or the advanced scout in baseball.
PSU plays Iowa 9/23. so the week before that PSU plays Georgia State. So while CJF and the full staff is gaming planing for Ga State, he will have copies of Iowa games with Bowling Green, Wyoming, maybe 1 from last yrs (3 games, and then more for a total of 4) and his job will be to get everything together relative to Iowa the week before (Ga State Week) so as soon as the Iowa North Texas game become available, either Saturday night or Sunday morning after PSU plays GA State, he will break down that game as well. So now when the regular coaches begin prep for Iowa, most likely Sunday pm or Monday am (they spend part of Sunday on a post morteum of Ga State) he will get them up to speed, and probably help with early game plans, scouting reports, tendencies etc. About Wednesday or Thursday of the week, he will move on to PSU next opponent Indiana , by that time he should have tapes of IU vs OSU, UVA, FIU, GSU, and will break those down. IU is open the week before us, so he should have a great jump on everything for our breakdown. Many times, and depending on the number on consultants, they are assigned to one side of the ball, either they work breaking down the O for the D or the D for the O. I don't know how PSU does it. Sometimes, they have someone for the ST as well. Get to about Wednesday of the IU game, and the consultant is on to the next game!!

Not being a smart ass, but would you mind giving thoughts on why this is a good hire?
Not Art but look at his resume. Coached in college coached in the pros. The level of his current job he is way more than qualified. I hear the 10th coach won't come until 2018. But who knows. I can't remember when CJF got out of east Strod but maybe they played against each other??

Thanks for the link to his Wiki page... I'm guessing he will recruit both NJ and Florida pretty well.

Rutgers special teams were pretty good during the time he coached them so having an extra set of eyes will help.

Uh, no, he's not allowed to recruit.

Not in person, today... everyone seems to think this is in preparation for the 10th assistant coach maybe in 2018.

BTW, I am still waiting for you to fill us in on why he's such a great hire. Lacking that, I had to try to guess on my own.

Look at his answer at 10:16pm. Art thinks Rutgers special teams played pretty well when he coached them. I like any guy who's has NFL experience. You learn a lot at that level

Thank you. And I said "good" not "great."
