How do they go about raising funds? Do they ‘recruit’ ….raise funds….nationally? How do they convince national donors to work with Penn State vs other schools? How large a region can they raise funds? ….Jersey, NYC, Maryland, etc?

What restrictions/ legal requirements on NIL advisors? Certified Financial Adviser? Liability insurance, licensing?

Lots of money in flux >>>>>>attracts crooks!

Technically, college players aren’t allowed to sign with an agent or they lose their eligibility. What’s to prevent agents from being NIL advisers and getting players under contract early?

What is being promised in an NIL package to a recruit and to an existing athlete that could leave for the transfer portal? Is it a dollar amount? Is it a possible contract with a business to pay them? Do some recruits get promised more money than others? Or is there a standard amount that a typical PSU football player might make as a basseline?

Why pay a coach more than $500K - would we do better if we took all of the comp for the basketball coach and paid it out in NIL?

I jest

That's actually not a bad question. I don't think the school can pay NIL but is there a limit to what they can pay players to run summer camps? Can they pay players $25k to do that?

Are coaches even allowed to discuss NIL opportunities with players? Or are they only allowed to tell prospects that they are aware of certain opportunities and give them a number to call?

I was a huge shrewsbury fan, but he hugely benefitted from having a bunch of talented senior free agents that joined the team. I’m sure they were enticed with NIL. As a thought exercise, you could image a scenario where you hire “up and coming” assistant coaches into 3-year contracts under $1M/year with heavy penalties for early exits. However, you pay NIL significantly over market. A lot of talented coaches would jump at that opportunity to build their resume and, I would imagine, few(er) of the players would exit when the coach entered the transfer portal ;). In other words, you build the assumption that we’ll have a rotating head coach into the model.
