New idea for football: Every stadium should have a flag pole located dead center of the field goal post, about 5-10 yards back. If you hit the flag pole (with the exception of on a PAT), your team gets an extra point.

Could you imagine the drama that this potential 4 point play could add to late game field goals? Say a team is down by 3, kicking a last-second FG from 45 yards out. Either team could win the game in regulation, or it could go to OT... that would add a whole new level of late-game stress and anxiety. Neither side can relax during the kick, thinking "worst case scenario is we are playing OT this game."

Closer or further away? Why reward a poor offense who has a good kicker?
I don't think you're rewarding a poor offense. Kick a 28-yarder and you get two points; A 38 yarder is three points. If your kicker is good and you can get a 43 yarder for four point...more power to you. Fifty plus will get you five pts. Or maybe make it every 15 yards = 1 pt. I think a graduated scale opens up a whole new level of strategy

On the other hand, a 'good' offense will go for it more inside the 20 rather than settle for two crappy points.

So a team with a good kicker can have the QB take a knee to get the longer FG.

Let's really take a leap. How about automated uprights that squeeze tighter the closer the offense gets to the end zone.

No, lets not increase the impact that kicking has in football. If anything, I'd be in favor of outlawing the "place kick" and going back to the drop kick. This would have more teams going for it on 4th down in the opponents side of the field.
