Had dinner last night on their first weekend. Fantastic meal, very good service. On pricey side but we had a few drinks each and some Espresso martinis for dessert. I agree with most of you who say SC has few good high end restaraunts. I think this fits the bill. If they keep the service high, this concept is a winner IMO. Bigger bar, more space and more windows.
Topper was I got to meet Duke!
Had a nice chat with him.

Per the heading, is the Allen Street Grill now operated by the recent Spats restaurant?
Also, the best restaurant in town in my opinion, Zola, is closing given the renovation of the entire block at College and Atherton.
They may move somewhere else but not sure where or when.

Espresso martini? Ugh

Unless James Bond or Winston Churchill would drink it let's not call it a martini.

This may result in a revocation of your man card.

Not sure of exact business arrangement but it is my understanding existing ASG ownership is combining ASG staff and Spats staff to integrate best of both menus at ASG location. Duke must have some interest as he was working the room and getting congrats.

What’s happening on that block? Another high rise?

What's going on at the other building? Inside demo?

Fair enough ‘Ro. I prefer real martinis with gin, triple olives or jalapeño stuffed olives. Just using their name to describe the drink we enjoyed for dessert. It was on the sweet side using liquors with frothed heavy cream on top with distinctive orange oil in the mix and nutmeg on top. Had an in depth discussion about it as I mix a lot of these my self for the ladies in my life (wife, daughter, friends lest you get the wrong idea).

In a related note, the merger is bringing a close to one of the longest running music gigs in State College. Bill Filer has been soloing at the Allen Street Grill on weekends for about 20 years. Tonight is his last night. A bunch of us are going to hang out with him this evening from 8:30 on to celebrate his last night. If you are in the area, come on down and say goodbye to Bill.

Duke was operator/owner of the Skeller and Spats. Owned the business, not the buildings.
Since you guys are on a Duke roll, l’ll share with you a very abrieviated version of the story I shared with him last night. When our family gook the classic out west trip many years back, we found a Restaraunt in the middle of nowhere in Utah called Dukes. Turns out the owner/chef used to do the on set catering for John Wayne and the gang when they were filmimg in the desert out side of Vegas. Giant mural of the Duke and Maureen O’hara on the wall. Delightful man full of stories, told tableside on a chair turned backward, just like the Duke. We were mesmerized. License plate on his Lincoln: The Duke

His Man Card is gonna be placed next to yours on The Revocation Shelf, Latte Boy!
Ship em down here. I can use them to start fires in my woodstove. Bob's especially, since it has been revoked, appealled, briefly reinstated, and appealed again through the court system on numerous occasions. Whole forests have been felled in the service of his little-used, dubious man card.

We had such high hopes for him.:(

It takes so much blood to make the outrage face that precious little is left to fill up even the smallest cylinder.

Bob knows the difference between fear and panic. Fear is the first time you can't do it a second time. Panic is the second time you can't do it once.

I guess I’m the only on who never thought of the Allen St Grill as anything special.

Love the atmosphere, but the food for the price is pretty average IMO.
